SCAM Alert!!!
How crazy! I just got a call telling me that I failed to show for a federal grand jury selection. Since I didn’t show about this, they said that I needed to go to the Faulkner County Sheriffs office to prove my signature did not match their signed certified mail. I agreed, of course. Next, they text me a “copy of the warrant”. As a digital marketer, I know that you want to avoid opening ANY attachment if possible as that can provide an entry into your phone by a hacker. Instead, I screenshot their image then enlarged it. It looks a little suspect. Here’s the craziest part. They want me to physically drive to the real sheriffs office address today to prove my signature. Ok. Sounds legit. Next, they tell me that a bond was paid for my failure to appear and I must pay it pending signature verification. If my signature is not the one on the certified mail they “will quickly reimburse me”. Hmmmm. I told them I was suspicious and I would hang up to call the sheriff to verify this. They cursed me and hung up. I went ahead and reported it to the sheriffs crime unit. They told me they are doing everything possible to get the word out about this scam. While I’m shocked that anyone would pay this - $15,000! they informed me that indeed people are paying it - some paying it with cash right outside the sheriffs office. They are wrecking lives! I’m posting this here and in my groups to let you know how I recommend you handle these calls. Unfortunately, with technology today hackers and scammers can be very very convincing. Always disconnect, Google the real sheriffs office or claimed party and verify anything similar to this. Verify twice!!! Be blessed.
