Queen Beans from the Grove City Rotary Club volunteer at the Hilltop Bean Dinner

A heat index of 100 degrees did not stop hundreds of people from coming out to Westgate Park on June 22 to experience one of the oldest festivals in the state: the Historic Hilltop Bean Dinner Festival. Hosted by the Hilltop Business Association, the seven-hour event featured artist booths, bounce houses, large misting fans, live musical entertainment, meet-and-greets with local politicians running for office, and a smorgasbord of food including the famous “secret recipe beans” that keep individuals coming back for more each year. Shown here making sure that the hungry masses were able to fill their bellies on those famous “secret recipe beans” are volunteers Mary Titus (left) and Victoria Johnson (right). The self-proclaimed “Queen Beans” have been volunteering at the event for several years alongside their fellow Grove City Rotarians. Those who were in charge of cooking and stirring the bean soup were able to rotate with other volunteers so they could all get a break from the heat.
