A group of Seeking Refuge members visited Clarkston, Georgia, also known as America’s most diverse square mile, to explore the city and learn from refugee-owned businesses (keep an eye out for an episode soon!). We were moved by the welcoming and uplifting atmosphere that we experienced during our trip.
At a local park, we found a trail containing stands open to books dedicated to welcoming children and families to the area. The diverse spread of individuals represented in the books reminds us of easy steps we can take to make immigrant and refugee children feel seen and supported.
Secondly, we stumbled upon a mural on the side of a church with words that represent welcome and diversity. As we’ve discussed in previous themes of the podcast (namely Season 9), art is a great way through which we can connect with one another.
Lastly, we would like to thank the Clarkston residents who shared their businesses and spaces with us for broadening our perspective of diversity and friendship in the US. Hope to see you again soon :)
