If I can ensure one family has less regret in their life after losing someone special it’s all worth it. I love this poem. It says it so well.

When someone has gone,
you can bring them back
for just a little while
by talking them into life
by painting a picture
with your memories and your words
breathing their essence
back into existence
for just a few moments.

When someone has gone
you can see them again
for a minute or two
by being all the things they once were
by allowing their best traits
to filter through you
shaping your words,
your thoughts and your deeds
back out into this world.

When someone has gone
you can feel them again
for just a moment
by playing their music
and singing their favourite songs
by giving yourself up to the notes
that brought them alive
once upon a time
it will again.

When someone has gone
you can keep a part of them alive
by giving the love you had for them
a forever place in your life
a forever seat at your table
and a glorious chapter in your book.

Stories never die
tell them.

Creative Aging programs are so important to me and I’m thrilled to announce I’ve been asked to be one of 25 Ohio teaching artists who will be part of this cohort! Thank you Ohio Arts Council

Today, we’re excited to share the launch of the Building Bridges to Sustained Communities initiative. It represents the next phase of Creative Aging Ohio and will focus on bringing artmaking experiences to older adults in Ohio’s underserved and historically marginalized communities.

Twenty-five Ohio teaching artists of diverse artistic disciplines and geographic regions have been selected to participate in this new OAC initiative. Soon, they will take part in a series of intensive training sessions facilitated by Lifetime Arts—a leader in skill-based, sequential instructional creative aging programs and services. Later in the year, they will work with program host sites across the state to present a series of eight, 90-minute sessions using the skills they developed during the training. They’ll also have the opportunity to assist in planning for the long-term sustainability of creative aging programming in Ohio.

Funding for this initiative was provided through the States Leading Creative Aging program, presented by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and E.A. Michelson Philanthropy. Ohio received the highest award ($95,000) and was one of only nine states to receive funding.
