A customer asked, "What do you charge to DJ?"

Me: $500-$1200+ depending on the event.

Him: That's so expensive!

Me: How much do you think it should cost you?

Him: $200 max... That's a pretty easy job right?"

Me: For $200 I invite you to do it yourself.

Him: But.... I don't know how.

Me: For $200 I'll teach you how. Besides saving you $300-1000 you'll get the knowledge for the next time you want to DJ a party.

It seemed like a good deal to him, and he agreed.

Me: To get started you need the tools: A DJ controller, a PA loudspeaker system, a large music collection, microphones, headphones, cables, a laptop, etc...

Him: But I don't have any equipment and I can't buy all of that for one job.

Me: Well then for another $200 more I'll rent my stuff to you so you can do it.

Him: Okay.

Me: Okay! Saturday is your first lesson.

Him: But I can't on Saturday. I only have time today.

Me: I'm sorry, but I'm only available on Saturday to teach you and lend my stuff to you. On other days I am booked with clients.

Him: Well... okay! That means I'm going to have to sacrifice my Saturday and give up my previous plans.

Me: Oh! I forgot. To do this job, you also must pay for the nonproductive factors.

Him: What are those?"

Me: Taxes, equipment maintenance, insurance, subscriptions, fuel for the truck etc.

Him: Oh no!... But to do this, I'm going to spend more money and waste a lot of extra time!

Me: So Saturday?

Him: ...Okay.

Me: I'll prepare everything you need to learn how to be a DJ. I'll get everything ready Saturday morning. You'll have to come by 7am to help load the truck. Please don't be late. Promptness is very important.

Him: 7AM on Saturday? No way! Too early for me! I'm used to sleeping in on Saturdays..... You know, come to think of it. I'd rather pay you the $500 - $1200. If I did it, it wouldn't be perfect, and it would cost me a lot more in time and money.
