Fired Arkansas State Police Trooper has Certification Revoked after Lying about Relationship with Superior
The state board that oversees policing standards voted on Wednesday to decertify a fired Arkansas State Police trooper for lying to her superiors about her romantic relationship with a state police sergeant, who was fired and stripped of his state law enforcement credentials earlier this year.
Members of the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training voted unanimously to permanently revoke the certification of former trooper Kayln Jackson, 24, after an internal state police investigation in May found she had been untruthful when asked about her relationship with Sgt. Alan Aiken, 43.
Jackson was fired by the state police on May 4. Aiken was fired on April 4.
State police investigators discovered that Jackson and Aiken began a relationship sometime in October 2022 and, at one point, discussed getting married, according to the internal investigation file obtained through an Arkansas Freedom of Information Act request.
The commission's decision means that Jackson will not be able to serve as a certified law enforcement officer in Arkansas again.
This case highlights the importance of honesty and integrity in law enforcement. It also sends a message that the Arkansas State Police will not tolerate misconduct by its troopers.
