Check out this article by Ricardo Andrade Fernández (The Pennsylvania State University) about the novel El mago de la cara de vidrio, by Eduardo Liendo. You can find this article
in volume 51 (Fall 2021): https://www.artsci.uc.edu/.../rall/crr/previous-issues.html

👇👇

Abstract: This article focuses on how Eduardo Liendo’s El mago de la cara de vidrio (1973) simultaneously represents the attribution of full agency to the television and the total dispossession of the viewer’s agency, while examining the ambivalence behind the opposition between print and audiovisual culture that is hyperbolically evoked in the narrative. This paper puts the literary analysis in dialogue with critical ideas of communication and media theory to explore one intriguing representation of television in Latin American literature.

Extract: "Kristin Sarah Leahy and Isabelle Vanderschelden’s Screenwriters in French Cinema is the first ever English-language study of French screenwriters. Arranging the chapters principally in chronological order, the authors have produced an alternative historiography of French cinema that emphasizes multiple aspects of the film production process. . . given its comprehensive and chronological approach, Screenwriters in French Cinema will appeal to students and researchers alike. Its strength lies in its use of case studies, its efforts to highlight figures that have previously not received the attention they deserve, and its approach to tackling the tricky questions of film authorship."

Abstract: Three novels by the Portuguese writer José Saramago – Levantado do chão, Memorial do Convento and O ano da morte de Ricardo Reis – are the subject of analysis for the proposal of a poetics of parody in the author's novel writing. To do so, it is necessary to start from an updated conception of the metagenre of parody, distinguishing several operative dimensions – intertextual parody, architectural parody and interdiscursive parody. In this way, this study aims to analyse the various operative and semantic dimensions of parody; and, at the same time, to question the place of parody in the aesthetic and cultural worldview of this author.

Therefore, like Lafcadio Hearn’s books, A Cultural History of Hispanic Speakers in Japan can be considered another
indispensable reading to all the people who are interested not only in Japanese culture, but also in the captivating account of encounters, exchanges, and connections between Japan and the West, that have determined the cultural and historical relations of our contemporary world."

Check out this article by Frederic Lezeviel (University of South Florida St Petersburg) about French film This Land Is Mine (1943 by director Jean Renoir.
This article was published in our last issue (53, Fall 2022), you can read it here:
https://www.artsci.uc.edu/crr.html

🆕 ⬇️ ❗

Check out this review by Mahan L. Ellison (Furman University) of La poesía guineoecuatoriana en español en su
contexto colonial y (trans)nacional (2019).

Check out this article by Daniel Arroyo Rodríguez (University of Massachusetts Lowell) about Spanish writer Francisco Ayala's novel Cazador en el alba (1929).
This article was published in our last issue (53, Fall 2022), you can read it here:
https://www.artsci.uc.edu/crr.html

🆕 ⬇️ ❗

Check out this review by Beatriz Celaya Carrillo (University of Cincinnati) of Indiscreet Fantasies: Iberian Q***r Cinema (2021), edited by Andrés Lema-Hinchapié and Conxita Domènech. This review was published in our issue 49 (Fall 2020), you can read it here:

⬇️ ❗

Check out this article by Jennifer A. Darrell (King's College) about the first chronicle of Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala, in which he tried to fusion the biblical myth and the Andean history, in order to revindicate Andean culture and its legitimacy.
This article was published in our issue 46 (Spring 2019), you can read it here:
https://www.artsci.uc.edu/crr.html

🆕 ⬇️ ❗

After the massive strike that paralyzed France in the last weeks, new protests are expected because of the modification of pensions.
Brave and tireless, French citizens have always reacted to the historic circumstances that have threatened them. Check out this article by Raúl Rosales Herrera (Drew University) about Leandro Campa's novel: Little Havana Memorial Park.
This article was published in our last issue (53, Fall 2022), you can read it here:
https://www.artsci.uc.edu/crr.html

🆕 ⬇️ ❗

Abstract: This essay examines the spatial particularities of Mariel-generation Cuban writing, establishing the Mariel exile text as both the culmination of a complex negotiation with representational spaces, as well as the only viable space where exilic expression is possible for this exile group. Via a close reading of Leandro “Eddy” Campa’s Little Havana Memorial Park, and the use of several spatial theoretical frameworks, this study highlights the potential in the spatial for a better understanding of the intra-and extra-textual elements within Mariel fiction.

After the controversial World Cup in Qatar and the victory of Argentina, old debates are resurfacing about the influence of soccer in society. If you are interested in this topic, check out this article by Alejandro Lámbarry (Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla) about three novels by Honduran writer Horacio Castellanos Moya.
This article was published in our monographic issue about Latin American literature and sports (50, Spring 2021), you can read it here:

https://www.artsci.uc.edu/crr.html

🆕 ⬇️ ❗
