“It couldn’t have been THAT bad”
I was going thru my storage the other day looking for something and sydney was going thru a box and found a letter from her dad..
It was a typed out apology for what he had done an fallen out of an old christmas card.. and she started reading it.. I stopped her and she said: Idk mom i don’t think dad was really THAT mean to you..
🥺😔
The letter she found was a letter he jus wrote 2 years ago, long AFTER i had already left and divorced him.. he has never admitted to ever hurting me.. Just simply apologized for “hurting my feelings” which i accepted and forgave for myself (not him) and to allow a healthy coparenting relationship for sydney..
But hearing her say “he really wasn’t that mean” kinda just stuck me in the heart..
i’ve never went into detail about what he did to me because i never wanted to alter her relationship with him..
I’m glad she doesn’t remember what happened but also just makes me feel like damn.. I never thought i’d have to defend me leaving to her of all people..
I had to explain myself to the chain of the command in the army, to the lawyers, police, to his friends and family that it all really was THAT bad..
It’s a hard reality to face, maybe i was just weak.. I did all this for her.. i hope one day she knows that.. I know she doesn’t realize what she said or how it might of hurt me..
I did the best I could syd 🫶🏼

What is my goal?

This podcast is a personal project of mine, I do not profit from it, I pay to have these episodes made. I am a survivor of Domestic Violence and it is my goal to give a platform to other survivors to speak their truth and be heard. I want people to tell their stories they have bared untold for far to long, to place the blame and stigma of abuse on the perpetrators where it BELONGS. My hope is that listeners who may still be in a abusive relationship will hear these stories and learn the terms behind abuse, inspiring them to leave and get out safely before its to late. At the end of each of my episodes I tribute a life that has been lost to domestic violence and honor their name. Because while we pride ourselves in being survivors, the reality is not everyone survives. I hope this podcast helps you heal in some way and if you or someone you know has a story to tell, DM me. And please share this podcast with anyone you think it might help. #SpeakYourTruth
