On September 29, Governor Newsom vetoed a bill (Senate Bill 299), passed with overwhelming support by both houses of the legislature, including bipartisan support in the Assembly, which would have given the Secretary of State authority to create a Secure Automatic Voter Registration system for California.
I emailed his contact form to protest. You too?

You can contact the Governor a few different ways. The best way is through his online form.

My guest from the Peace and Justice Program sent me this info for those of you who might be able to help young Afghans stuck in Pakistan since the Taliban take over. Please, if you can. I know everyone is stretched thin.

From Kathy Kelly, Peace Activist: "A network of international “buddies” stays in touch with the young friends living in
Pakistan, encouraging them to learn Portuguese, study Portugal’s rich history and culture, and continue building a strong, resilient community. It’s hard. All of the young people deeply miss their loved ones in Afghanistan. They long to help their family members who continue to face desperate circumstances. We feel edified by their care for one another as they cope with traumas caused by war and human rights abuses.
"Our international team sincerely thanks the vast network of people who have shown steady, strong generosity toward young Afghans seeking safer havens. We hope you will consider assisting the next iteration of “Barakat Leiria.” Expenses for visas, transportation, housing, food, personal allowances and project
oversight are covered through donations from individuals and groups. To make an online donation, please visit The AJ Muste Foundation for Peace and Justice page
dedicated to this cause:
https://ajmuste.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=34
This will direct your donation to InPulsar.

Alternatively, a check can be issued to AJ Muste Foundation for Peace and Justice with InPulsar
written in the memo section.
The check can be mailed to:

This is the anti-democracy podcaster who influences Vance:

Curtis Yarvin's ideas have been influential among right-libertarians and paleolibertarians, and the public discourses of prominent investors like Peter Thiel [who funded Vance's Senate race] have echoed Yarvin's project of seceding from democracy. … In Yarvin's view, democratic governments are inefficient and wasteful and should be replaced with sovereign joint-stock corporations whose "shareholders" (large owners) elect an executive with total power, but who must serve at their pleasure.[28] The executive, unencumbered by liberal-democratic procedures, could rule efficiently much like a CEO-monarch.[28] Yarvin admires Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping for his pragmatic and market-oriented authoritarianism, and the city-state of Singapore as an example of a successful authoritarian regime. He sees the US as soft on crime, dominated by economic and democratic delusions.[27]
He says we should get over a anti-dictator bias.
