Björk's New Release - Atopos (09/06/2022)

Atopos is Björk's radical/subversive "Weird Flex" response to humanity's move away from love toward destruction and hate. Atopos is radical and subversive considering society's current normalized trends of open aggression and violence.

Musically, Atopos is Reggaeton Beats meets Orchestral Reeds meets Drum and Bass meets Icelandic EDM meets Björk's Otherworldly Vocals.

The video... if a rave were a person, they'd be trippin' hard.

Opinion/Interpretation by O.P., The Lowercase "a"
(Note: Björk stated that the song is about doubt in relationships expressed lyrically)

"Are these not just excuses to not connect? / Our differences are irrelevant / To only name the flaws / Are excuses to not connect

If we don't grow outwards towards love / We'll implode inwards towards destruction"
Written by Björk & Gabber Modus Operandi

Atopos, Animal Taxonomy:
a genus of carnivorous air-breathing land slugs, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusks in the family Rathouisiidae

Atopos (atopoß), Biblical (Greek):
out of place, not befitting, unbecoming, improper, wicked, unrighteous, inconvenient, harmful, perverse

Pharrell Williams & Beck Hansen - "Saw Lightning"

"Lord, won't you take me and lead me to the light? / Lord, won't you take me and lead me to the light? / The Lord's gonna take me and leave me in the light / The Lord's gonna take me and leave me in the light"

Saw windy manes / Saw mountains fall / Saw temples burn / Prison walls / Saw floods coming / Saw children run / We got no more shelter, no more sun

Then it came to me in a flash of light / By the sycamore tree in the dead of night / The bottom bell and the longest day / The hardest wind and the fallen rain / Saw lightning, saw lightning, saw lightning / I held my head up / And it struck me down / Down to the ground / It struck me down, struck me down / Struck me down to the ground

There was a day I saw lightning / There was a day I saw lightning / Hey hey hey, saw lightning / Ho ho ho, saw lightning / He he he, saw lightning / Ha ha ha

When they're named, I wonder where it go / Hold the sea, where it's sunny where I grow / One more day then daily I know / High, need trees, when it's sunny and go / More than fee, by money, I know / Pull me in, gotta start down low / Don't gotta sing, with weather I go / Partner we go

Then it came to me in a flash of light / By the sycamore tree in the dead of night / The bottom bell and the longest day / The hardest wind and the fallen rain / Saw lightning, saw lightning, saw lightning / I held my head up / And it struck me down / Down to the ground / It struck me down, struck me down / Struck me down on the ground

Hey hey hey, saw lightning / Ho ho ho, saw lightning / He he he, saw lightning / Ha ha ha, saw lightning / Saw lightning, saw lightning, saw lightning

Lord, won't you take me and lead me to the light? / Lord, won't you take me and lead me to the light? / The Lord's gonna take me and leave me in the light / The Lord's gonna take me and leave me in the light

Then it came to me in a flash of light / By the sycamore tree in the dead of night / The bottom bell and the longest day / The hardest wind or in the fallen rain / I saw lightning, saw lightning, saw lightning / I held my head up / And it struck me down / Down to the ground / It struck me down, struck me down / Struck me down on the ground

I saw lightning / I saw lightning / I saw lightning / I saw lightning

Step out the front door like a ghost / into the fog where no one notices / the contrast of white on white / And in between the moon and you / the angels get a better view of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.
~Adam Duritz, Round Here

Francesca Woodman (1958 -1981) was an American photographer best known for her surrealist black and white images of herself or other women. A Colorado native, Woodman studied art in Rome and attended the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She then moved to NYC in 1979 to pursue a career in photography. After becoming profoundly ill with depression and several failed attempts at her chosen profession, she took her own life by jumping from the window of a NYC building at the age of twenty-three.
Though she never attained success during her short life, Woodman has gained posthumous recognition for her gothic and surreal photographs.

Then came the darker sooner,
came the later lower.
We were no longer a sweeter-here
happily-ever-after. We were after ever.
We were farther and further.
More was the word we used for harder.
Lost was our standard-bearer.
Our gods were fallen faster,
and fallen larger.
The day was duller, duller
was disaster. Our charge was error.
Instead of leader we had louder,
instead of lover, never. And over this river
broke the winter’s black weather.
