MAIL CARRIER SHOT AND KILLED, $25K REWARD OFFERED FOR INFO THAT LEADS TO AN ARREST

A USPS letter carrier was tragically shot and killed in the West Pullman area of Chicago on Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 11:38 a.m. on the 12100 block of South Harvard, where the 48-year-old woman was working in front of a home. An unidentified male suspect approached her, drew a firearm, and fired multiple shots before escaping in a vehicle along 121st Street, according to police reports.

The victim sustained several gunshot wounds and was taken to Christ Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has offered a reward of up to $250,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 1-877-876-2455. All tips will remain strictly confidential.

ℹ️ GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OUTAGE DISRUPTS BANKS, FLIGHTS, MEDIA OUTLETS & MORE

A widespread technology outage on Friday halted flights, disrupted banking services, and caused media outlets to go offline. The disruption stemmed from a faulty software update that affected companies globally, underscoring their reliance on a small number of service providers.

According to CrowdStrike, the issue with the update, which impacted Microsoft Windows systems, was not due to a security breach or cyberattack. CrowdStrike assured that a solution was being prepared to resolve the problem.

All of these businesses and corporations relied on the same software. Their stock plummeted 15% as of this morning as issues continue to escalate.

ℹ️ 6:AM MASS SHOOTING ON 71ST & WOODLAWN, 2 WOMEN KILLED, 3 CHILDREN INJURED, AGES 5 - 8

This morning, around 6:15am, suspects arrived in multiple vehicles wearing ski masks and targeted a residence on the 7100 block of south Woodlawn avenue.

2 adult women ages 42, and 22, were shot and killed. 3 children were also injured and taken to area hospitals. They are between the ages of 5 and 8 and are listed in critical condition.

According to police, the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute, and investigations are currently underway. At the scene, authorities recovered shell casings from both a handgun and a rifle.

ℹ️ NORTH RIVERSIDE PARK MALL SHOOTING INJURES 2 FOLLOWING ALTERCATION, MAYOR CONFIRMS

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire at North Riverside Park Mall just before 5:20 p.m. Wednesday. The incident followed a physical altercation between two couples inside the mall.

Two men sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation, with both individuals later stabilized at a local hospital. The shooting occurred despite recent security enhancements at the mall, including the deployment of undercover officers who were reportedly among the initial responders.

The mayor indicated that no firearm has been found, and the shooter departed the scene. It remains unclear whether the shooter was among the injured men or either of the women involved in the altercation, though the mayor affirmed it was one of the four individuals present.

31ST STREET BEACH IN CHICAGO TO CLOSE EARLY WITH ENHANCED SECURITY

Chicago's 31st Street Beach will close early the next 10 days. Additional fencing and bag checks will also be in place

Ald. Lamont Robinson’s office (4th Ward) confirmed that the beach will close at 9 p.m. for the next 10 days. Additionally, the alderman’s office said there will be new fencing, additional security and bag checks in place. Violence interrupters will remain on site as well.

The curfew will be enforced by Chicago police. No loitering will be allowed in the parking lot or on the beach. Towing and ticket enforcement will begin at 11 pm

A Chicago man has been charged with murder after a fatal shooting in West Ridge earlier this month.

According to police, Nicolas Novak was identified as the offender who, on June 8, fatally shot a 31-year-old man in the 2900 block of W. Devon Avenue.

Novak was arrested on June 25 in the 6500 block of N. Damen Avenue — not far from where the shooting occurred. He's been charged with three felony counts:

1.) Murder - First Degree
2.) Aggravated UUW/Loaded-No FCCA-FOID
3.) UUW - Weapon / Silencer

Novak, 18, is due in court for a detention hearing on June 28.

No further information was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.

On Sunday, around 9:30 p.m., another fatal shooting occurred in the 4700 block of South Paulina. A man was killed, and a woman was injured when shots were fired from a dark-colored sedan. The man, whose identity has not been released, was struck several times and died at the scene. The 27-year-old woman, who was shot in the leg, is in fair condition at a local hospital. Security camera footage was released from a nearby location.

Staff released the following statement:

"Due to the storm, the artist setups were delayed and we need more time to make sure they are able to play the best show with no technical issues. Because of this and repairs to the grounds, doors will open around 4pm. For safety reasons please don’t arrive to the park prior to 3pm."

Once we open, please be patient as we process everyone into the site.

Today will continue to be wet so please wear your rain boots and dress accordingly for the weather (poncho/rain jacket). Reminder, umbrellas are not allowed."

Festival goers have taken to the comments to share their grievances as artists like Manuel Turizo were also apparently cut.

BREAKING: LAGUNITAS CLOSING BREWERY, TAPROOM IN CHICAGO

Heineken announced today that it had acquired the remaining 50 percent stake in Lagunitas Brewing Company. Heineken already owned a 50% of the company which it purchased in 2015. Lagunitas has breweries in Petaluma, California, and Chicago. Heineken, the world’s second largest brewer, has over 165 breweries in more than 70 countries.

Lagunitas informed employees Thursday morning that they plan on closing its brewery and taproom.

The brewery, located in the 2600 block of West 17th Street in North Lawndale, opened up in the summer of 2014.

An employee, who WGN News is keeping anonymous, said management found out about the move Wednesday with the rest of the employees finding out in an early morning meeting Thursday.

A press release sent out in the afternoon says the changes will impact 86 employees.

“Been watching our culture go from dying on an incubator to on its death bed, to ‘holy s*** — ‘there’s been a lot of layoffs,'” the employee said. “It’s been kinda chaotic and rudderless.” The employee attributed this to the acquisition by Heineken.

They said while they’re very disappointed, the craft beer industry as a whole is hurting right now.

The press release mirrors that.

The closure will occur on Aug. 1.

PARKING 🅿️ WARNING⚠️ Neighbors, Dozens of Chicago residents woke up to missing vehicles Friday morning as the city said 263 vehicles were towed from 3-7 a.m. Chicago’s annual Winter Overnight Parking Ban took effect at 3 a.m. Friday and will remain in place through April 1, regardless of snowfall. The ban prohibits parking on 107 miles of the city’s main streets from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. during the winter months. Each year, the change leads to hundreds of tows for the first night. Neighbors, sometimes just staying at home doesn’t seem so bad. 😳 Several men in two cars ambushed a vehicle before attacking the driver in Chicago. This incident happened near the 1700 block of North Western. Video captures a Chicago driver being carjacked by a gang of armed men who trapped him between two cars before tying him up. The clip shows a 2013 Audi A4 parked on the highway at night with its headlights on. Two more vehicles rapidly approach before coming to a halt at the front and rear end of the vehicle, hemming it in. The Audi rolls forward in the beginnings of an attempt to escape, but within seconds three men leap from the surrounding vehicles and approach the driver. One points a gun at his side window while two more drag him out of the car and throw him on the ground.
