The Independent is a public forum for the university and the community surrounding Northeastern Illinois University and its satellite campuses, El Centro in the Logan Square community and Jacob C. The Independent is completely student run and receives no prior review of its content by anyone other than its student editors. The Independent is published every other week except during summer and seme

ster breaks. Deadlines are nine (9) days prior to the issue in which a contribution is to appear. Views expressed in letters are those of the university community and not those of the Editorial Board. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for the content of the Independent, and views presented do not necessarily represent those of the administration, faculty or students. The Independent is a member of the Illinois College Press Association and Associated Collegiate Press.

⭐Check out what we did on the day! From creating prompts from Arts and Crafts to hearing from different voices regarding protests, there was a lot covered in this one day summit!⭐

On Wed., Feb. 14, 2024, the K(NO)W MORE program and Pedroso Center hosted a Bystander Intervention Training as a way to mitigate stalking, sexual, domestic, interpersonal, and dating violence. The Independent's Managing Editor Jasmine Rodriguez, presented a poem titled "Another Name, the Same Mask", at the North Side campus's "The Pedroso Center Homecoming for Double Alumni Alderperson Jessica "Jessie" Fuentes" on Tuesday, October 17th.
