I'm amazed but not surprised that domestic terrorism is alive and well among certain groups. These groups avoid prosecution because many are public servants and many work in institutions that govern, protect, and serve this country. Its time to turn the page. Call a spade a spade and rid America of these groups for good.

"Georgia state Republicans introduced a resolution Thursday that seeks to change the Georgia State Constitution to mandate the use of state-wide grand juries in prosecutions involving election crimes. The move would force prosecutors to draw more grand jurors from predominantly Republican rural areas of the state."

There should be a law to prevent changes to laws on the books in order to prevent criminal prosecution. Change is needed in every state to w**d out this type of abuse of power.

It’s been less than a week since Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis publicly began an investigation into Donald Trump‘s phone call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and Georgia Republicans are already trying in earnest to change the rules that apply to prosecutions of election c...

During his 1796 Farewell Address, President George Washington said: “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely, in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the Power of the People and to usurp for themselves the reins of Government; destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

This is the type of rhetoric, deeply rooted in racism, which continues to divide our country and promote hate. Labeling individuals with hateful adjectives only exposes the level of racism that still exists in this country. Our democracy must be rid of any politician who holds this view.

"We will do whatever it takes to expose Stacey Abrams' radical network, highlight her dangerous agenda, and ultimately defeat her—and her left-wing candidates—at the ballot box," he later added.

"But leadership based in honesty, truth, compassion toward others—leadership driven by Dr. King’s “inescapable network of mutuality”—that is true patriotism."

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to lead with hope rather than fear, and today is obviously a good day to reflect on that. Because in the face of unspeakable violence and bigotry, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., knew that achieving equality required peaceful protest, an approach rooted in the recognition of the fundamental interconnectedness of all people.

Sadly, we’ve just seen what happens when leaders choose the other path. Our Capitol stormed and looted. The waving flags of racial division. A mob beating and murdering those who chose to protect our democracy.

These riots have shown us that plenty of leaders today are all too willing to choose the weakness of hatred and division over the values that have long united us as Americans. So in the spirit of Dr. King’s moral clarity, let’s be very clear today: Leaders who take us down this path are choosing the path of ruin. Leadership based on lies and mistrust and demonizing those who don’t agree with you—or look like you—that kind of leadership will always end badly, whether in destruction, lawlessness, or death.

But leadership based in honesty, truth, compassion toward others—leadership driven by Dr. King’s “inescapable network of mutuality”—that is true patriotism. And as we pick up the wreckage left behind by this president and those who enabled him, I hope more of us can keep leading with love. Because just as Dr. King taught us, you don’t have to be in the Oval Office to do that, either.

The fact is, if we want something better for this nation, then each of us, individually, has to do better. We have to raise our children to understand that patriotism isn’t cloaking yourself in the flag. It isn’t defiling a sacred symbol of our democracy. It isn’t embracing the rot of white supremacy.

Instead, patriotism is treating our fellow citizens with compassion, kindness, and generosity. Patriotism is matching a dream of a better tomorrow with a plan to achieve it. And patriotism is dedicating ourselves to the thankless and difficult work of improving this nation we call home.

That is the legacy we celebrate today. But we all know that we’ve got to do so much more than that. These past few weeks—these past four years—have shown us that. We ask for prayers of peace in the days to come as we turn the page on this sad era in leadership and usher in a new day of promise and hope. Now more than ever, our country needs us to march together and organize together and lift each other up so we might come a little closer to the ideals for which Dr. King gave his life.

If anyone had a right to question whether our democracy was worth redeeming, it was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Because in the face of billy clubs and lynchings, poll taxes and literacy tests, he never gave in to violence, never waved a traitorous flag, never gave up on the country he called home, despite all of the injustices and indignities it brought upon him.

Instead, he set out to realize his dream the most effective—and the most radical—way he knew how, by working with others to march, boycott, and sit in, recognizing that, as he said, “Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

The seeds of his courage, his discipline, his vision, and the resilience of all who joined with him took years to bear fruit. But they gave us the Civil Rights Act. The Voting Rights Act. And an American tradition of nonviolent resistance that has rung through the generations, as we saw this summer when Americans of all races echoed his example in standing up to declare that Black Lives Matter—no more but also no less.

On , we celebrate his life but we’re also called to live out his values through service of our own. Here are some ways you can get involved in your community: bideninaugural.org/day-of-service/

We’re in the middle of a tough chapter for our country, but should serve as a reminder that we have been through tough times before—and emerged from them stronger. But only because we never stopped believing in our democracy. Only because we never stopped working to perfect it. And only because, even in the face of intimidation, discrimination, and unimaginable suffering, we never stopped dreaming of a better day—and never stopped doing the long, hard, essential work of ushering it in.

Democrats on three House committees on Tuesday released a report documenting the impeachment case against President Trump.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, Democratic leader and regular Trump target, dies at 68

Born to a family of Southern sharecroppers and Baptist preachers, Mr. Cummings grew up in the racially fractured Baltimore of the 1950s and 1960s. At 11, he helped integrate a local swimming pool while being attacked with bottles and rocks. “Perry Mason,” the popular TV series about a fictional defense lawyer, inspired him to enter the legal profession.

The staff at West Pullman Post sends deepest condolences. We have lost a leader who lead with grit and integrity. Representative Elijah Cummings, godspeed as you begin a new journey.

Rep. Elijah Cummings chaired the powerful House Oversight and Reform Committee and helped lead the House impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

Fort Worth shooting: Police release video, family demands justice

"Perceiving a threat, the officer drew his duty weapon and fired one shot, striking the person inside the residence," the statement said.

'Perceiving a threat', a term now synonymous with law enforcement's cart blanc protocol to judge, condemn, and execute people of color. When will it stop? It is time for communities to look at law enforcement's standard operating procedures (SOP's) and challenge the legitimacy of how situations are approached. Clearly the passing of the Patriot Act gave our local institutions the authority to treat Americans with military type force. This is not the military, we are not at war, or are we? Law officials, you work at the expense of taxpayers and have a duty to protect, not kill. Demanding justice is just a microcosm of the problems in Americas criminal justice system. We must look at current law enforcement SOP's, the Patriot Act, and other systems in place that are eroding and capitulating to a larger problem. It's time to overturn and rewrite laws and institutions in place which contribute to the larger problems we face as a nation. Let the dialogue begin.

With Trump under threat, his allies are seizing on various defenses. Most aren’t great.

Truly expected more from WP than to deflect current events. Reminiscence of third grade boys on the school yard. One gets caught doing something wrong and in his impending discipline yells, 'Bob did it, too...what about him?'. Anything to deflect blame and take responsibility for one's actions. The American prop-machine is well at work, once again.

A look at how Trump's allies are trying to have his back.

Trump accidentally tweeted an insult at a pastor. Here’s how the pastor responded.

Perhaps Lincoln would not have been overly fond of Twitter, based on one 1861 quotation that Carl selected from the great emancipator: “I am rather inclined to silence, and whether that be wise or not, it is at least more unusual nowadays to find a man who can hold his tongue than to find one who cannot.”

The Baptist pastor called the president "a lightweight." But then he got deeper.

Louisiana police officer fired after suggesting AOC should be shot

A Louisiana police officer was fired on Monday over a Facebook post he made last week suggesting Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., be shot.

The officer, Charlie Rispoli, a 14-year veteran of the Gretna, Louisiana, police force, called Ocasio-Cortez a "vile idiot" who "needs a round, and I don't mean the kind she used to serve," referring to her past job as a bartender, according to a screenshot posted by nola.com. According to the New Orleans-based news outlet, his comment was a reaction to a fake quote attributed to the congresswoman claiming that "we pay soldiers too much." Both his post and Facebook account have since been taken down.

It seems to me that we are at a truly definitional point in U.S. history. Our kids and grandkids will look back and ask, what did you do when the country was confronted with the hate spewing from Washington, D.C. and overt racism and cruelty supported by most Republicans. Did you stand and fight? Did you maneuver for victory in 2020? Did you speak up? Or did you sit back and just hope things would get better because they always seemed to in the past. People have different and valid opinions about impeachment versus the 2020 elections and I'm okay with that conversation. But I'm not okay with doing nothing and if that's where you're at, I'm not okay with you. The MAGA hat is simply a white hood for our times. The only non starter is to stay silent. What does it really mean to be an American? Whose side are you on? Get involved! Marty Chavez
