DAVID GILMOUR AND RICHARD WRIGT ❤️
Richard was already part of the group when David Gilmour joined to replace Syd Barrett Rick helped him in many ways and that bond was created, not only musical, that continued until Rick's death; in these lines David explains better what he felt when he passed away: "At first I felt an unbearable pain, for the loss of the man, of the friend. I took him on tour with me until he had the strength. He played every night as if that were the last concert of his career. He was happy and strenuously attached to what was left of his life. I never watch the DVD of those concerts: it breaks my heart. When Richard was not on stage, he lived in the waters of the Mediterranean on his beloved sailing boat. He sailed non-stop and, sometimes, even without a destination. A free spirit".
Yes, because Rick's last tour was with David in 2006, and also his last live appearance, here, in September 2007 for the premiere of the DVD "Remember That Night".
Listening to the songs live (more than the studio pieces), you can better grasp the musical connection, for example in songs like "Wot's Uh The Deal", "Us & Them", "The Great Gig in the Sky", "Any Colour You Like", all the parts of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", you can hear how much musical connection there is, not to mention the masterpiece "Marooned", the apotheosis.
Gilmour says that the loss of Rock was an immense pain
'What is very clear to me is that with no musician in the world will I find that harmony again. I tried to play with other keyboard players, but there's nothing to do: Richard is irreplaceable.'
When two people find themselves having a bond like the one between them, it is unlikely to happen again with other people. And in fact when David found himself choosing a new keyboardist for his “Rattle That Lock” tour it was immediately clear that he never found the same understanding he had with Rick.
The masterpiece that united them will forever be “Echoes“. A song that will never be performed live by David Gilmour again. I wanted to choose the last performance, something beyond any conception. Indescribable, each finds their counterpoint in the other, whoever plays will know how difficult it is to find an understanding and what David and Rick had was special.
In the photos David and Richard ❤️
In the first photo they look very similar, they seem like brothers
