Former CBN Director of Currency Operations Ahmed Umar said that former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele created a Naira design that had different features from the design authorized by former President Buhari.

He said, “Godwin Emefiele printed his own design of the Naira with features different from the design approved by Former President Buhari. The approved design had a QR code, which the currency currently in circulation does not have. The positioning of the portrait was on the right side, but the one printed by the CBN shows it on the left. EFCC forms a team to investigate El-Rufai and others over alleged N423 billion fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has assembled a group of investigators to examine the alleged mishandling of N423 billion by ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and certain prominent figures in his administration.

The former governor will be summoned by the investigators for questioning.

Others set to be questioned include individuals who held the position of Finance commissioners between May 29, 2015, and May 29, 2023; all the accountant generals during his eight-year tenure, and the chairpersons of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) from 2018 to 2023.
All former managing directors of the Kaduna Market Development and Management Company Ltd within the period from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, and the former managing directors of Kaduna Roads Agency (KADRA) from October 11, 2017, to November 2021, with the exclusion of Amina Ja’afar Ladan, an engineer who had a brief one-month tenure.

“We are in receipt of a petition from an NGO. So, we have started investigation in the matters raised in the petition.

“The report of the Ad-Hoc Committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly is also handy. We will soon invite el-Rufai and some members of his team for interrogation.

Constitutional Amendment proposing that the President and 1st Vice President should be chosen from the same region (either north or south), and stipulating that the 1st Vice President would assume the role of President in case the President is unable to serve, i.e., V.P. (Succession), V.P. (Administration and Economy).

A collective of House of Representatives members, known as 'Reform Minded Lawmakers', have proposed electoral reforms, including advocating for a single six-year term for Presidents and Governors. These suggestions are part of several bills currently under consideration by the House.

States are making efforts to completely eliminate electricity subsidies and implement new tariff structures.

State governments are preparing to phase out electricity subsidies in their regions as additional states prepare to align with others in managing their individual power markets in accordance with their own regulations.

In a document from the Nigeria Governors' Forum titled 'Development of the National Integrated Electricity Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan Policy Recommendations by State Governments to the Federal Ministry of Power,' states expressed their intention to introduce varying electricity tariffs within their respective regions.

They provided these suggestions following the approval of the Electricity Act 2023. The Electricity Act 2023 is a national regulation that replaces the Electric Power Sector Reform Act and serves as the current legal structure for the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry.
The Energy Act of 2023 introduces a complex electricity market structure consisting of a central wholesale federal market and decentralized retail sub-national markets. These two market segments are intricately connected through a network of policies and regulations.

The Nigeria Governors Forum said, “Electricity is a commodity and a product that must be paid for by consumers. The states believe that electricity subsidies and other forms of financial interventions in the power sector by the Federal Government over the last 15 years have been inefficient and ineffective so far.

“Rather than improve the quality and reliability of service, electricity subsidies in the sector have been applied to cover inefficient costs and lack of service by Discos, TCN, Gencos and gas producers across the NESI.
