The Cracked Gamer/Dad Story
How did video games impact your life? I’ve always had a passion for gaming. It goes back to SNES days up until now, Now I’m gaming on my Xbox One. Growing up we didn’t have much, video games weren’t something my parents were willing to spend money on. My parents worked their butt off to get my brother and I our first gaming system; Super Nintendo Entertainment System. We had a blast playing on our first console, eventually our parents noticed how interested and passionate we were. So a couple years later, we got a Nintendo 64. That’s when we really indulged into the world of gaming. Super Mario 64, Mortal Kombat 4, Donkey Kong Racing, and many more titles allowed us to enter a world where anything was possible.
While the years passed by, new and better consoles were being released and eventually we got our hands on a Playstation 2. I’ve got countless memories on PS2. Going over to friends houses to play Def Jam: Fight for NY to rocking out on Guitar Hero 3. I will never forget the times on Playstation but my best years will always be on the Infamous Xbox 360. Halo 3, Gear Of War 1-3, Guitar Hero, CoD, and many more titles were all apart of my teenage years. Although I was always busy playing sports and going to school, I always made time to game. I was introduced to multiplayer on the Xbox 360 so that’s why it will forever be an important cog in my life.
A couple years later and we’re in 2016, I just moved out my parents house and I didn’t really have much to my name. My room was empty for a couple weeks, but that changed after I got my Tv and soon after that I bought my Xbox One with my own hard earned money. That was the start of something special. I spent my days playing and my nights working trying to adjust to the adult life at just 19 years of age. Once I reached 20, it was 2017 and well that’s a very special year to me. My son was born in May of that same year and well he’s been the biggest blessing to me. Although I was still very young and still am, I felt a huge sense of responsibility. I did my absolute best to balance life but ultimately that’s something that takes time and patience.
I hit a very bad slump emotionally in 2019. My girlfriend for four years and I split up and well that left me really depressed. I honestly felt better off dead. I had zero motivation to do anything. Yes it may sound a little ridiculous but that’s where my head was and I didn’t care what anyone thought. Luckily I had family and friends to thank for getting me through that rough time. My son was the main person who kept my head up, honestly my son is everything to me. It took months to get over it though, getting distracted with work and video games is what helped me so much. Watching streamers play Fortnite, Apex, CoD and many other games made me feel apart of their community and that’s exactly why I got into streaming myself.
