Reminder about Stevens County burn ban in effect.

Total Burn Ban Enacted In Stevens County!

Effective immediately, per ordinance 2022-06, all fires (including campfires) are prohibited in unincorporated areas of Stevens County. DNR has also enacted a state-wide burn ban on all DNR protected land.

Despite the unpredictable and strange weather this past weekend, the Colville PRCA Rodeo thrilled a packed stadium. Winners' results will be in this week's Independent.

District 1 crews are on the scene of a 2 vehicle fatal accident on 231 just south of Reservation Road.

The accident occured at 330pm.

Hwy 231 is blocked in both directions and will be shut down for several hours while WSP investigates the accident. DOT will be setting up a detour soon.

Deer Park Ambulance transported 2 patients from the scene with serious injuries.

Scott Freitag is on his way to Chewelah! His bike route will take him to Newport as in the image. Today is his last day in Washington state. He's riding around (literally) the country to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer and Schizophrenia.

He's in Addy and traveling between 12-14 miles per hour. He could reach Chewelah around 11 a.m. and would love to see folks out there to cheer him on!

UPDATE: Scott headed out early to avoid some weather later today and will be in Chewelah right about at 11 a.m.

Monday morning (4/29), around 11:30-12, Scott Freitag will be riding through Chewelah on the final stretch of his bike trip literally around America to raise awareness for Prostate Cancer and Schizophrenia. He'll be coming down Highway 395 and then on to Deer Park. You are welcome to come out and cheer him on as he passes through town.

Kids ages 0-12 are invited to come out Saturday morning at Snyder Field (the football field and track located near the intersection of Hwy 395 and 2nd Street West) for the annual Chewelah Kiwanis Egg Hunt. Don’t be late – the hunt starts promptly at 11 a.m. and takes approximately one minute for the kids to clear the eggs off the fields! You are encouraged to show up early in order to locate your kids' age group and line up for the 11 a.m. start.

The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our starting at 7 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, Feb. 27, until 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

The NWS is forecasting 2 to 6 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

The NWS said to be prepared for slippery roads and hazardous conditions during the morning commute.
