Hey everyone, it's time for another episode of Walkin' on the Wild Side Podcast! It was brought to my attention that our last episode was unavailable for download, so that has been fixed and our trip to San Antonio podcast is now available...SORRY!!

The latest episode finds me flying "solo" as both Gabrielle Bouknight and I are traveling quite a bit and it is hard to synchronize our schedules...and speaking of synchronizing, this episode focuses on the amazing synchronized event that is happening in many places, the 13 and 17 year cicada emergence! Join me from the back porch as I chat about this incredible phenomenon happening now, why it's happening, how it happens, and some reasons behind this unique and poorly understood magic of nature. You can download starting tomorrow at 8am from our website:
https://walkinonthewildside.buzzsprout.com
or
any of the major podcast platforms like Apple, iHeart, Spotify, etc.

As many of you know, we have an eastern screech owl living in our nest box. We have affectionately named the gray-phase female "Gracie", but we have been waiting for the male to show up.k. He's been hiding very well but in the woods behind the box. As the eggs hatch and the female spends more time in the nest, the male will begin to move in closer to the nest box to keep and eye on things. The older the hatchlings get, the closer the male gets to the nest box. I have been looking for the male, a red phase we call "Otis" ( Otus asio, now called Megascops asio), and today, after much searching...I FOUND HIM! He is such a camouflaged little guy, but dedication pays off. Now, I will be able to find him and hopefully get some better pictures. For now, here he and Gracie are...complete with Otis's "stink eye"...
