Social media really would have been a magical place if I was able to document my life overseas. Overseas athletes now have no idea how good they’ve got it. We were out there raw-dogging life with Nokia phones and digital cameras, and all I’ve got are some blurry photos and questionable memories.

Let’s be real…my content would’ve been better than my game highlights.

Shoutout to this professor from for casually listing all the ways they’ve almost checked out of this life. This hits WAY too close to home for us overseas athletes. We’ve dodged rogue mopeds in Italy and eating ‘mystery meat’ from a street vendor in Kosovo because, well, YOLO…we too like to live dangerously.

Most of us have at least one ‘I almost died doing something ridiculous overseas’ story. Like the time I was within five feet of poisonous bites in Australia or being scolded by the local street gang after a tough loss.

Overseas fam, drop your close-call stories below. Let’s hear who’s got the wildest tale of survival (and questionable decision-making). 🏀🌍💀

Recent regulatory changes in professional sports have shifted the responsibility of paying agent fees from clubs to players. This “Client Pays Principle” mandates that the party engaging the agent, typically the player, bears the cost of the agent’s services.

That’s what is happening. However, all that has occurred is the team has cut out the middle man during the financial exchange. But as a player there are things you need to know.

- Make sure the salary you agree to has an agent fee built in.

- Make sure the team doesn’t include the number in YOUR taxes.

- Understand the new rule makes leaving a bad situation more difficult for the agent, so make sure you have an agent you trust.

We will take a deep dive into this topic in our newsletter tomorrow.

Even the greats feel it. Anxiety is something we as athletes rarely talk about because we’re conditioned to be machines and maintain the allure of being unbreakable, and always in control. But the truth is, behind the stats and highlights, we all feel the pressure.

Steph Curry admitting this reminds us that it’s okay to acknowledge the weight of expectations. It’s not weakness, but rather it’s part of what drives us. The real strength lies in facing it head-on and showing up anyway.

Let’s normalize this conversation. Anxiety isn’t a flaw…it’s a sign you care about what you’re doing. And that’s what keeps us going.

The world of basketball goes far beyond the NBA. We have the high-octane energy of Australia’s NBL. The precision and discipline of Japan’s B.League And finally, the passion-fueled arenas of Argentina’s Liga Nacional. These three up and coming leagues prove the global game is thriving like never before.

These leagues, originally stepping stones, are now destinations, offering players career-changing opportunities and investors growing markets.

Key Takeaways:
- Salaries and growth strategies that make these leagues unique.
- Why the NBL feels like an NBA game down under.
- How Japan’s B.League blends tradition with modernity.
- Argentina’s soccer-like basketball culture.

What’s your favorite overseas league, and where do you see the next big opportunity for basketball? Let’s talk!

Coach Wengui Li on Kamilla Cardoso’s overseas journey:

“I’m deeply moved by how she played through that—it was truly remarkable,” Coach Li shared after another dominant performance from Kamilla in Shanghai. But even in the midst of praising her, he had one piece of advice (or maybe a warning):

“Lower that center of gravity!”

He went on: “She’s got the best offensive skills of any foreign player this season, but this is a huge thing for her. Please, fans, do me a favor—remind her to lower that center of gravity!”

Overseas, coaches still work on development. They see a flaw and they will fix it. Players are constantly refining their craft and growing into the best versions of themselves. Kamilla’s been leading the charge with her skill and sheer dominance, showing why she’s a star on the rise.

Would you be pi**ed as an American Import participating in this, while your family is 1200 miles away? I remember the faux joy all too well. Just remember, it is one day. And you are allowed to feel however you feel about it. Frustrated, homesick, over it…whatever, it’s all valid.

So, do what you need to do, call your family, treat yourself, or just sit in the feelings for a bit. The grind we signed up for is tough, but don’t let it steal all your joy. Keep pushing.
