Fortunate as a teenager to have such a great high school ride, with my Dad purchasing it for $2,800 when I got my driver's license at 16, taking whatever I had in savings, and then me working off the balance the next summer. I learned about gas, maintenance, and insurance costs shortly thereafterafter. My brother and I installed lap belts in it so my now wife of 32 years, Shay, could sit right next to me.

Going through my Dad's 35mm slides, I ran across a few shots of the '58 Chevy Apache I remember taking out in front of our house in Chelan, WA, 1988. As a young man, this truck defined who I was in the small town.

What I take from the shot is how similar I shoot cars now. I love the "head-on" look, displaying the details of the stance. So much gets lost when only looking at them from the side. Our classic cars need preservation and I love seeing them at the track. The curves, chrome, and colors are rolling artwork displaying American ingenuity.

This yellow paint was under a year old and I was happy with the choice.
