As part of my effort to bring varying voices together through storytelling in 2025, I’m gathering diverse perspectives from women of all backgrounds to shed light on this life-changing procedure. Dear Confession,
I heard you are good for the soul. I guess that’s why I enjoy your company so much. I want my soul to be free from the heaviness of my circumstances.
The thing is, I need to be mindful of who I share you with. You’re far too beautiful to share such intimacies with just anyone. It seems that sharing you is more for my Creator to know that I’m aware I need you and to be edified by your countenance.
You’re not complicated, but sharing you sometimes can be. I’m afraid of the shame and insecurities that peek out when I talk about you. Yet, I know that Judgement and Condemnation are not your allies, and you have little regard for them. That eases my soul.
I’ll remember you and call on you more often. After all, who am I to keep you at bay if you are indeed good for the soul?

I hated the expression, “A sight for sore eyes!”

It didn’t make any sense to me when I was younger, so I didn’t appreciate the value of what it meant.

This morning, I was thinking about a shipment of medications I’m waiting for. As I was reflecting on the many blessings in my life, this is a highly anticipated blessing.

When we experience unfavorable events, our eyes see things that hurt us and affect our emotions, and they see things that could have ‘sore’ outcomes.

Our eyes are not exempt from the aftermath of traumatic events, and they cause memories we’d rather not relive.

If you need to relieve your ‘sore eyes’ today, find something beautiful to look at—something that takes your breath away because of how striking it is. Spend time looking at it: a family photo, flowers in your garden, the blue sky.

Like the individual I’m waiting for to deliver my medications, it will be a sight for sore eyes.
