TREMORS 3 (2001) Graboid Tongue

The original Tremors is in my top 5 movies of all time. It’s my favorite creature feature. This is from the third film which isn’t nearly as good, but fortunately they were still going all out with some amazing practical effects.

THEY LIVE (1988) Screen Used Alien Eyeballs

My favorite film from my favorite director. And also one of my favorite props. These eyeballs come directly from John Carpenter himself and are accompanied by a COA signed by him. They were part of a screen used mask that deteriorated over time. These are one of only four pairs of eyeballs that exist. Also featured is a production made subliminal stickers and a box. The image of the full mask was taken from a photo on Carpenter’s Instagram. That is the only mask that still exists and was recently restored. I also included a photo from my son’s “THEY LIVE” birthday last year. It’s his favorite movie.

THE OUTER LIMITS “THE ZANTI MISFITS” (1963) Zanti Creature

My favorite creature of all time. While not entirely original, this is the most accurate model of a Zanti Misfits creature in the world. There’s only two completely original ants that exist, that I know of, but they have become almost unrecognizable due to deterioration. This “ant” comes from the legendary collection of Forrest “Forry” J. Ackerman. This was once an original Zanti prop that Forry had restored.

Additional info from Profiles in History: “This model was developed in 1970 using the deteriorating remains of the original prop from the MGM auction of the same year, when the item had been obtained by magazine editor and science fiction collector Forrest Ackerman.”

Fun fact that legendary author David J. Schow shared with me…

“Al Hamm (1925-2001) of “Speedy Alka Seltzer” commercial fame animated the Zantis, but I recently found out he was assisted by “Sneaky Pete” Kleinow (1934-2007) who became a founding member of the Flying Burrito Brothers as pedal-steel guitarist after both men left Project Unlimited in the wake of THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM. Both began animating on GUMBY and later DAVEY & GOLIATH.”

MAN’S BEST FRIEND (1993) Screen Used Tibetan Mastiff Puppet

This puppet was used for the best scene of the movie... when the dog swallows a cat whole. (The dog is part snake don’t forget). This puppet has jaws that can open, and a large tube in the mouth so an operator could pull the cat through. I rank this movie higher than CUJO. If you haven’t seen it you’re seriously missing out. It’s pure entertainment. Kevin Yagher did the FX on this one and this puppet came directly from him.

STARSHIP TROOPERS 2 & 3 Bugs

The first “Arachnid” bug is actually a toy made after the first film that was painted over by production and used in the third film. It comes from our friends at . The other bug is from the second film.

TALES FROM THE CRYPT “LOWER BERTH” (1990) Screen Used Enoch, the “Two-Faced Man” Mechanical Head.

The Crypt Keeper’s father! Kevin Yagher did the FX for this episode and also directed it. His brother, Jeff Yagher, played Enoch, the two faced freak that falls in love with a 4,000 year old mummy. This leads to the birth of The Crypt Keeper. Tales From the Crypt is one of my all time favorite shows. I remember having to stay up until midnight when I was a kid to watch it. This episode is definitely in my top 10.

The original HAUNTED MASK from the first episode of the GOOSEBUMPS (1995) television series. It’s accompanied by a signed Letter of Authenticity from Steve Levitan, the producer of the original series and president/CEO of Protocol Entertainment, stating it was used for the first two episodes of the series.

Additional info for those interested…

Two versions of the mask were used for the episode. This version is seen whenever the mask isn’t being worn, as well as many scenes when it is. It’s first seen in the intro to the episode by R. L. Stine, and then again when the mask makes its first appearance in the episode. It’s seen on the same stand as it is now, and lined up with the other masks in the store. It’s also featured more throughout the episode and at the end of the next episode, “The Haunted Mask - Part 2”, where it can be seen in Carly Beth’s hands after she’s removed the mask from her head, and the final scene when her brother is wearing it. The other version is currently in Ron’s studio and can be distinguished on screen by its longer, more “fang-like”, teeth.

This mask is one of only two props I know of from the original show that aren’t currently housed in Ron Stefaniuk’s studio. I’ll share the other prop next. Ron and his team created every monster for the original series and he’s kept almost all of them. This mask was in his studio until 2008 when it was given to the producer of Goosebumps.

Unfortunately the mask has spent many years in sunlight and has suffered horribly from it. I plan for it to undergo some very minor work to help preserve it. I’d never want it to look new again, so there won’t be any excessive work done to it.

Every image I’ve shared below is of this version of the mask.

THE TWILIGHT ZONE (2019) Screen Used Kanamit Mask

This mask was created by the late great Bill Terezakis, and was used in the series finale of Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone revival, “You Might Also Like”. The original 1959 series is my favorite television series of All TIME, and there’s a lot of fun to be had in Jordan Peele’s version as well. This episode is especially cool because it serves as a sequel to “To Serve Man” which is in my top 5 original Twilight Zone episodes. Half of the movies coming out these days were done better as episodes from the original series, so if you haven’t seen them all I highly recommend sitting down for a Twilight Zone marathon.

(I think) THE THING (1982) Henry Alvarez Prototype “Blair Monster” Jaws

This large set of resin jaws comes from private collection of Henry Alvarez with COA from Andrea Alvarez stating this is a “Huge Monster Jaw and Teeth of Alien Creature”. Henry sculpted the “Blair Monster” for THE THING, and I believe these are some type of early version. Alvarez is a legendary artist that worked on some of my favorite films including PUMPKINHEAD. He passed in 2012, but his legacy will live on forever.

ALIEN RESURRECTION (1997) Xenomorph Feet

This movie is pure fun. Underrated if you ask me. The underwater chase scene is one of my all time favorite scenes in the Alien franchise.

AVP: ALIEN VS PREDATOR (2004) Special Effects Facehugger

This screen used facehugger was created by SFX legends studioADI and was used in scenes where it’s attached to a face and breathing. There’s a tube that connects to air sacs inside the creature so an off screen operator could make it “breathe”. The legs feature metal armatures to wrap around unfortunate hosts heads, and there’s also a wire attached that I think was for giving the facehugger a little movement besides the breathing. The team at ADI is the absolute best at what they do. The detail on this is amazing. If you ask me, there is no bad Alien movie. They all feature impressive practical effects that I could watch all day. Thank you to my new friend for helping with this.

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (1993) Oogie Boogie Bugs

These bugs come directly from the stop motion animator of the Oogie Boogie bug scene in The Nightmare Before Christmas, and are accompanied by an LOA signed by the animator. The first two shown are currently in the museum and the other three have been adopted by collector friends. There is an absolutely insane amount of work that goes into stop motion feature films. This one took a team of animators 4 years to finish. As a stop motion animator myself, this film is very special to me.

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS (1993) Putty Patroller Half-Mask

This is a production made half-mask. Power Rangers is one of my childhood favorites, and the monster costumes that were made for this show are amazing. There are still a couple of them around, so if you see one let us know. 😆

SMILE (2022) Teeth and Facial Appliances

These are production made teeth and facial appliances that were unused. These props aren’t very significant but I’m a huge fan of Smile. There are some absolutely insane practical effects at the end of this film. Writer/Director Parker Finn teamed up with SFX legends studioADI and knocked it out of the park. This is another film that I highly recommend watching ‘behind the scenes’ footage of to appreciate it on another level. Looking forward to the sequel.

APOCALYPTO (2006) Stunt and Mechanical Snakes

These were used in the snake bite scene towards the end of the film. The stunt snake gets some good screen time but the mechanical snake, whose mouth can be controlled, is only shown for a brief moment leaping from below. It looks like they used footage of a real snake for most of the footage when it first attacks, but as soon as it laches onto the man’s neck it becomes the stunt rubber snake for the rest of the scene. Also shown are heads, hearts, and hands from the film. The painted head was put on a stake, and the other head was used to roll down the temple stairs during the sacrifice scene.

This film grabs you and doesn’t let go until the very end. It still blows me away and has some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. Of course the practical effects are also to thank for how real everything feels.
