Another Indian bikemaker breaks into the small-bore single cylinder adventure market. The TVS Apache RTX is is all about making adventure touring more accessible. Built on an all-new 299 cc liquid-cooled platform, it’s clearly designed to take a swing at the adventure-touring middleweight crowd — think Himalayan 450, G 310 GS, IBEX 450, CRF300 or even the CB300X (not avail in the USA).

The numbers are promising: 35.5 hp, 21 lb-ft of torque, a 6-speed gearbox with quickshifter, and "long"travel suspension. On paper, it’s the most tech-loaded bike TVS has ever built — TFT display with navigation, traction control, cruise control, and switchable ABS.

Still, the big question is balance. Speculative numbers put it at around 180kg or almost 400lbs!0 Will that trellis frame and new RT-XD4 engine deliver genuine composure off-road, or does it lean more toward road-biased touring? Hard to say, until we ride it!

Suggested by fellow riders we met along the way, Mexico's Copper Canyon is a must-see, which is deeper than the Grand Canyon. We’d been enjoying the holiday feel of the lonely beaches and cactus-studded deserts, but it was time to move on to the “real” Mexico waiting for us on the mainland.
