Captain Eriksen took me under his wing early on, as he did with everyone at Cary Fire. The list of what he taught me about the job and about life is endless. He was smart, empathetic, and very funny. It is safe to say that we can still see all three of those traits we always tried so hard to emulate in all of us who worked with him. He will truly never be forgotten.

Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,
whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life,
whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
before it is too late,
Or save an older person from
the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and
hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and
to give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor
and protect his property.

And if, according to my fate,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your protecting
hand my children and my wife.

Thank You Capt.

The Cary Fire Protection District Mourns the Loss of Retired Fire Captain Kevin Eriksen

With deep regret, we announce the passing of retired Captain Kevin Eriksen, who passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, at the age of 75.

Captain Eriksen dedicated 39 years of service to CFPD, beginning as a paid-on-call firefighter/EMT in 1981 before rising to the ranks of Lieutenant and Captain. Even after reaching the department’s mandatory retirement age in 2015, he continued serving in a part-time administrative role for another five years, overseeing vehicle maintenance.

Rest easy, Kevin. Your legacy of service and dedication will never be forgotten.

The Voices Of Cary Illinois Have Entered The Chat.

"The Voices Cary Live - Live Tour" begins soon. The first steps were taken today, where I will be visiting all local schools for an off-camera community meet and greet.

We look at new spray paint tagging and talk about how we could benefit from a local transparent reporting tool.

We also discuss a local business closing and what underutilized abilities we have as a village to support all people and businesses all the time with the resources we already have.

McHenry County Regional Office of Education hosts free virtual cybersecurity course for parents. We watch together. Starts at 31:00

ROE to host free virtual cybersecurity course for parents

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Regional Office of Education is offering a free virtual class to educate parents about how to keep their children safe when it comes to technology.

The Cyber Guide for Parents course takes place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15

The course will be taught by Richard Wistocki, a child crime expert and retired police detective with more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, 22 of them as an internet crimes investigator with the Naperville Police Department. He was one of the founding members of the Illinois Attorney General’s Crimes Against Children Task Force and a member of the US Secret Service Computer Crimes Task Force; he also has authored Illinois laws regarding sexting and sexual exploitation of children. Wistocki is president of BeSure Consulting, which specializes in educating parents and students about online safety.

“Technology and the internet are now an inseparable part of children’s lives – but while it presents tremendous opportunity, there are dangerous people who can, and do, use it to target them,” Regional Superintendent of Schools Diana Hartmann said. “The free course we’re offering, from one of the foremost experts in the field, will help parents protect their children online.”

Topics that the presentation will cover include cyber-bullying, understanding your child’s phone apps, internet predators, the dangers of online gaming, the dangers of posting photos and videos to social media, file sharing, sexting, how to control and monitor computers and smart phones, and how to have technology talks with children.
