The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada fully supports SAG-AFTRA in its ongoing negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The two sides have been at an impasse for several weeks. SAG-AFTRA is seeking significant increases in wages, health care benefits, and residuals. AMPTP has a long history of refusing to compensate workers fairly. They have fought against unionization, resisted efforts to increase wages, and refused to provide adequate health care and pension benefits. The AMPTP has offered some concessions, but SAG-AFTRA says the offers are not enough.

SAG-AFTRA is fighting for the future of the entertainment industry, which they believe can only thrive if it is built on a foundation of fairness and equity. The current contract expires on July 12, 2023.

On June 5, SAG-AFTRA members voted 97.91% in favor of a strike authorization ahead of negotiations of the TV/Theatrical Contracts. The strike authorization vote was initiated on the unanimous recommendation of the SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical negotiating committee and National Board.

For Black History Month: There are AFM locals with hyphenated numbers, such as Chicago's Local 10-208. This is a legacy from the time when there were segregated unions. As locals merged, some kept the local numbers of both the White and Black locals. One local, Seattle's Local 76-493, adopted the hyphenated number many years after merging to honor this history.
