NOUVEL TOPS CARROLLTON, KEEPS PERFECT RECORD INTACT: The Nouvel varsity football team improved to 5-0 on Friday with a 38-12 home victory over Carrollton.
With the win, the Panthers retain their hold on second place in the state in MHSAA Playoff Points in Division 8 with 36.8, behind only Riverview Gabriel Richard’s 38.4.
Using a balanced offensive attack, the Panthers rolled up 281 total yards – 148 passing and 133 on the ground – while holding Carrollton to 121 and allowing only four first downs. Nouvel held the Cavaliers scoreless until the fourth quarter, by which time the Panthers built up a 38-point margin.
Drew Carlson had a strong game at quarterback for the Panthers filling in for an injured Ian Ziegelmann. Carlson was 5/8 passing for 75 yards and four of those completions were for touchdowns; two to Parker Kingsbury, and one each to Sean Foley and Lance Karwat.
John Carlson and Owen Vance each added a touchdown and rushed for 77 and 43 yards respectively.
Jack Wilson paced the Panther defense with four tackles, five assists, a sack, and a stop behind the line of scrimmage. John Carlson added five tackles and two assists while Christian Lopez added four tackles and an equal number of assists.
