Just a Girl in Camas

Just a Girl in Camas Bringing you local stories and local news about local people. Well, alright, I’ll admit it. I’m a local. And yep, I said it when I was little.
(1)

Born and raised in Vancouver, WA and both of my parents are native Camasonians. That I would never live in Camas. And here I am, some thirty years later, living in Camas, raising my family, enjoying my community and loving every minute of it. I love the town, the schools, the community and I love, love, love the people. So when I was pondering what direction my life was veering now that both of my

kids are in school all day, I discovered I was really passionate about my community. You know, the place where you spend most of your time. The place within a 10 mile radius that you shop, drive, visit and run errands of every sort. The place where we are all living right now doing our best on our journey to either raise a family, enjoy retirement or just enjoying the ride of life. Along with my passion for my community is my passion for talking to people, getting to know them and hear their stories. As I’m learning in life everyone has a story. All these stories help me see things differently, teach me new things, enlighten me and help me to become a better person. I’m hoping that by sharing positive stories from our community it will in turn show you an angle you might not have looked from, teach you something you didn’t know and enlighten and put a new spin on things. I’m following a dream of mine by starting this project and maybe it will inspire you to follow a dream as well. My dream is to get out in my community, report on businesses making a go of it out there, people making a difference, and just some good Camas news. Please take time to check out some of my interviews. There are always more to come and I look forward to sharing this great community of Camas with you! I’m just a girl in Camas wanting to share some good news.

Burn ban.🔥

Due to dry conditions from lack of rainfall and the inherent fire danger with this condition, Camas-Washougal Fire Department’s Fire Chief Cliff Free and Fire Marshal Ron Schumacher have issued a recreational burn ban in the cities of Camas and Washougal.

All outdoor fires using wood fuel are prohibited. Barbecues or grills using charcoal or gas and gas fire pits are still allowed at this time.

This ban is effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice.

Below is a link to what type of fires are allowed and what is not.

Spotted this cute momma heading in to drop off her letters for her senior graduating this year from (A wonderful tradition for all the high schools. Parents, teachers and friends write letters of well wishes that are handed out during graduation activities for them to read.) Special shout out to Beth Burton for all the work she puts into this.♥️
I had just dropped some off for my son’s friends and was just caught up in the moment of watching all these parents getting their letters in (last day to turn them in at Prune Hill Elementary) that I just sat in my car and bawled. Feeling all the emotions right now as my son gets ready to graduate. Excitement and hesitation. Nervousness and elation. The thrill of all the new adventures for these sweet kids graduating in a couple of weeks and finding their way. These kids had a rough start to high school. Leaving eight grade was marred by COVID and freshman year was mostly online or a random hybrid schedule. It was hard. Really hard. Not the ideal way one envisions a high school chapter starting . But they pushed thru. Some students chose online. Some chose other schools. Some held on at their high school. And I am so proud of every one of them. No matter the choice. It wasn’t ideal and they did it. They are graduating . Class of 2024. What a journey. And I’m just so damn proud of them.♥️🖤

You know what the sunshine and warm season means!!! Some important notes: we LOVE when folks bring in their own water cups, saving the environment! Just a reminder to not forget them with us! If one of these look like yours, we are saving them in our lost and found; just ask a barista to check in back. Also, for regular hand crafted beverages : we are now charging a size down if you bring your own mug/tumbler/jar/glass/bucket 🤣 Yay!!!

Momma. My beautiful momma. Thank you for everything you have been to me. Thank you for being there for me when I was little (cold wash cloths when I was sick, rooting for me at games, helping me learn to drive, cooking me yummy and healthy food and hundreds more core memories) teaching me so much about how to be a mom to my kids and along the way becoming one of my best friends. I love you.

Believe me, when it comes to trees, the City of Camas has let our citizens down repeatedly OVER and OVER. But looking at this last discussion and their plan forward is giving me a sliver of hope. A tiny sliver. Check out the article, watch the video and take the survey at the end. Not sure if this go around will make a difference but damn I hope so.🌲

EVERY DAY but especially on I want to give a shout out to some of the most beautiful and amazing women in my life. I have this picture on my bedroom wall, and I find myself staring at it all the time. I love looking at our arms wrapped around each other, leaning in and having that moment. I am so lucky to have my grandma in my life, my mom, my aunties, beautiful nieces, and my amazing daughter. The love and pride I feel for these women is indescribable. Each generation is making their mark and improving the role and influence that women make in this world. We are strong. We are nurturing and loving. We are a million other amazing things. We are redefining the role of women in this world. We are capable of anything. To all of you other women out there, cheers! Let’s keep going! .mcdonald

I know the world moves forward. It keeps turning. We hope to progress and learn and get better. I know. But it’s still so hard for me when I see an old building torn down. Or an old tree cut and fall that has been here long before me. I’ve been watching these two church buildings come down the last month or so and I wonder…who prayed there? Who found comfort there? Who celebrated? I hope they have good memories. I hope they will remember. Cheers to the buildings on 6th and Dallas.♥️

I visit a lot of my local coffee shops and love sitting down and enjoying a cuppa coffee. But I’m not gonna lie that the Starbucks up the street for me has been a gathering place since my kids were small. I came here when I needed to get out of the house as a new mom, I came here to meet friends and make new ones, I came here to meet members in my community, I came here to get work done at times and I’ve come here to enjoy a good mocha. Love the special design in my mocha today and just want to give out a shout out to for making great spaces in communities in the world out there. Thank you. I love this spot among my stops of fun coffee shops. Happy Valentine’s everybody.♥️ Spread some love out there. Special shout out to the crew at 192nd in Camas🙌
