Did you know the first artificial Christmas trees were made in Germany in the 1880s or 1890s from dyed goose feathers. The trees were made of dyed goose and turkey feathers, attached to wires which became the branches for the first artificial trees. Both round and square wooden bases were used, replicating the wooden buckets that were used for bases of live evergreen trees in Germany.

Rudolph was a marketing ploy

The beloved reindeer was created by a copywriter for the Montgomery Ward department store in 1939. He wrote Rudolph into a children’s story that could be given out to promote the store. It was a huge hit, with more than 2.4 million copies distributed in its first year! In 1949 Gene Autry recorded the famous song "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," and in 1964 came the movie featuring the island of misfit toys.

Normally, I’d be the first to joke and complain about volunteering for a Cricut project (they’re never as quick or easy as they seem!). But this time was different. This time was special. It was about giving back to those affected by the Mountain Fire.

My heart ached learning about these families—so many have lost everything, yet their requests are so minimal and some asking for nothing at all.

Revolution in Camarillo is putting up a Giving Tree, where you can choose a family to adopt this holiday season. The surfboard tags on the tree include their gender & sizes (their hobbies/interests will be provided to you at the register). You can shop in-store at a discount or elsewhere and drop off gifts by 12/22.

This wouldn’t have been possible without Jayme Hofteig - , who has poured countless hours into making it happen, and the Mota Family - , whose big hearts made this vision come to life.

The Giving Tree kicks off tonight, 12/6 at the Camarillo Glow Walk—stop in, adopt a family (or even their pet), and bring some light to their holiday season. Help make this time of year a little brighter for those who need it most. ✨

1. Beginning in the 1800s, the term “Black Friday” was used to identify stock market crashes.
2. Before Black Friday was associated with shopping, it was a day marked by Santa Claus parades.
3. Due to Thanksgiving overeating, Black Friday is the busiest day of the year for plumbers.

Day of the Dead is not sad, it's a celebration. While a holiday focused on those who've passed away, Día de Mu***os is a joyful occasion. This comes from the ancient Mesoamericans, who believed that death was part of the journey of life.
