Nigerian Teenagers ‘Trafficked’ To Ghana For ‘Prostitution’ Rescued

The girls, all under the age of 18, were reportedly lured from Nigeria to Ghana by a nameless man who has now been arrested by the police in neighbouring West African country.

According to the NIDCOM boss, the girls were rescued by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), an umbrella association for Nigerians living in Ghana.

In a viral video which showed the girls after they were rescued, a NIDO official was heard saying, “We just rescued all these ones from one single person, innocent Nigerian children that were brought here to do what they wouldn’t have wished do to.

A North Carolina man is celebrating after he won over $800,000 in the lottery — and after his sister dreamed he won big.

David Atwell, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, won $837,187 in the Cash 5 jackpot drawn on Saturday, April 27.

Earlier, his sister had a dream that he'd come into wealth, he told the North Carolina Education Lottery's website.

"In her dream I found a bunch of gold," he said.

"I guess dreams do come true."

Atwell told the lottery that his family had "always said I was the luckiest one" — something that is apparently the case.

He bought his $1 ticket from a convenience store in Kannapolis, a Charlotte suburb located northeast of the city.

Atwell's ticket matched all five of the numbers drawn in Cash 5, which was nearly a one in a million chance, said the North Carolina Education Lottery.

AT LEAST 287 SCHOOL CHILDREN KIDNAPPED BY ARMED GUNMEN IN NORTHWEST NIGERIA

At least 287 school children, some as young as eight years old, are being held by gunmen who raided their school in Nigeria’s northwestern Kaduna State early Thursday, a police spokesperson told Earth News Friday.

More than 300 students were taken early Thursday by the armed bandits on motorcycles who stormed the LEA Primary and Secondary School in the Kuriga village of Kaduna’s Chikun district, the state’s police spokesman Mansur Hassan said.

Some of the students were rescued but 287 of them remain with the kidnappers, Hassan said.

“Students were kidnapped from the school premises on Thursday morning around 8:00 am (local time). About 287 students are still in the hands of the bandits, 100 from the primary side and 187 from the secondary school,” Hassan said, adding that “over 300 students were initially kidnapped, but some were rescued.”

Earlier, Reuters reported that 227 children were kidnapped, citing a teacher, local councilor, and parents of the missing children. Several other reports including the Washington Post and a local outlet report 287, citing the school’s headteacher.

TINUBU INSISTS ON VISIT AS QATAR TURNS DOWN PRESIDENT'S REQUEST

Qatar has rejected a business and investment forum trip of President Bola Tinubu to the Arab country.

The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja stated this in a letter dated February 22 2024 and addressed to the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria.

The visit of the President to Qatar was scheduled for March 2 and 3, 2024.

But in the letter, which was received by the ministry on February 23 2024 and sighted by our correspondent on Saturday, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Qatar apologised for the rejection of the proposed business visit.

“The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Abuja presents its compliments to the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Regarding the upcoming state visit of H. E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Qatar from March 2 and 3, 2024 and with reference to your note: Ref: ME.631 2024 dated 12/02/2024, which proposed the holding of a business and investment forum on the margins of Mr President’s visit to Qatar on March 2, 2024.

“The Embassy has the honour to inform that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Qatar apologises that it will not be able to hold a business and investment forum as proposed by the Nigerian side,” part of the letter read.

The embassy explained that “there is no agreement signed between the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Nigeria on investment promotion and protection.

SENATE TO PROBE BUHARI, Emefiele OVER N30trn WAYS AND MEANS

The Senate, on Tuesday, resolved to probe the N30tn Ways and Means spent by former President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government which according to it, was recklessly spent.

It further stated that reckless spending of the overdraft collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria under Godwin Emefiele largely accounted for food and security crises currently facing the country.

The Red Chamber then resolved to set up an ad-hoc committee, to carry out an investigation on what the N30tn Ways and Means were spent on by the immediate past government since details of such spending were not made available to the National Assembly.

The ad-hoc committee which will be constituted on Wednesday, will also probe the N10tn expended on the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, the $2.4bn forex transaction out of $7bn obligation made for that purpose as well as other intervention programmes.

Senate’s resolutions on planned investigations followed consideration of report of its joint Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Finance, National Planning, Agriculture and Appropriation on State of the Economy after interactive sessions with the Federal Government’s economic management team .

The report consideration in plenary on Tuesday, was stormy with accusations and counter accusations by senators on why and how the N22.7tn Ways and Means was passed by the 9th Senate in May 2023 and additional N7.2tn passed on December 30, 2023 by the 10th Senate.

Specifically , the Whip of the Senate , Senator Ali Ndume (APC Borno South), in his contribution , blamed the Senate for approving the request without details from Buhari.

STOLEN FRIEND': RAPA NUI SEEK RETURN OF MOAI STATUE.

The renewed campaign by Chilean social media influencer Mike Milfort saw many of his followers demand its repatriation in the comments section of several of the museum's Instagram posts.

Mr Milfort regularly speaks about the moai in his viral videos.

"My followers began spamming 'return the moai' on Wikipedia, and then the comments section of the British Museum Instagram was full of people posting 'return the moai'," he said in one recent clip.

Chile's President Gabriel Boric has also backed the sentiment behind the social media campaign in a recent radio interview.

The British Museum says it deactivated comments on one post, which had been shared in collaboration with a youth charity.

A spokesperson said the museum welcomed debate but it had to be "balanced against the need for safeguarding considerations, especially where young people are concerned".

The museum says it has good and open relations with colleagues in Rapa Nui and there have been several visits from the community to London since 2018.

Last year, Greece's prime minister called for the Parthenon Sculptures - or Elgin Marbles - to be returned from the museum.

The sculptures are one of the most high-profile artefacts in the debate about whether museums across the world should return items to their countries of origin.

GREEK YOUTHS MARK HOLY SATURDAY WITH PETROL BOMBS.

Firecrackers and Molotov cocktails were set aflame on a street in Athens on Saturday evening, as Greeks gathered to celebrate Orthodox Easter.

Onlookers watched as men threw petrol bombs, flares and firecrackers, lighting up the Athens neighbourhood of Neos Kosmos on the eve of Easter Sunday.

While some onlookers enjoyed the spectacle, one local resident, Evgenia said it was not a traditional custom but had been happening for two to three years, leaving the street in a "mess."

A controversial Nepalese spiritual leader known as “Buddha Boy” was arrested on charges of s*xually assaulting a minor and involvement in the disappearance of at least four of his followers from his camps, police said Wednesday. Ram Bahadur Bamjan is believed by many Nepalese to be the reincarnation of Siddhartha Gautama, who was born in southwestern Nepal some 2,600 years ago and became revered as Buddha. Buddhist scholars have been skeptical of Bamjan's claims. Bamjan was arrested late Tuesday from his house in a suburb of Kathmandu, the country's capital, according to Nabaraj Adhikari of the Central Investigation Bureau. Police brought him before the media in handcuffs on Wednesday and said that he had tried to flee by jumping two floors from a window when the officers arrived but was unsuccessful and was taken into custody. Officials also displayed a stack of Nepalese banknotes they said was equivalent to $227,000 and other foreign currencies amounting to $23,000 seized from the house at the time of the arrest. Bamjan is expected to be taken to a court in southern Nepal, where the alleged crimes occurred, to appear before a judge there. Several dozen of his followers gathered later Wednesday outside the Central Investigation Bureau offices in Katmandu where Bamjan was being held but were pushed back by riot police. Bamjan, also known as Buddha Boy, became famous in southern Nepal in 2005 when many believed he was able to meditate without moving for months while sitting beneath a tree with no food or water. He has remained popular despite accusations of s*xually and physically assaulting his followers. His popularity has since declined but he still maintains camps in southern Nepal where thousands of his followers come to live and worship him or to visit. Buddhism, founded in India around 500 B.C. is considered the world’s fourth-largest religious tradition after Christianity, Islam and Hinduism.

Prince Harry wore a morning suit to walk behind the Queen's coffin as it transported to the Palace of Westminster

The vigil on Saturday is the first time Prince Harry has been seen in military uniform since stepping back as a working royal in 2020.

He served two tours in Afghanistan as part of the Army. He now lives in California with his wife Meghan and their two children.

Prince Andrew was also allowed to wear his military uniform as he stood guard on Friday. The 62-year-old stepped down as a working royal in 2019, after a Newsnight interview about his relationship with the late s*x offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The prince was later stripped of his military titles.

The Queen will lie in state at Westminster Hall until her funeral on Monday. The queue to see the coffin stretches as far as Southwark Park. Officials have said if the park reaches capacity, entry will be paused.

Mourners filed past as the King and his siblings as they stood in silent vigil around the coffin at Westminster Hall on Friday.

At King Charles' request, Prince Harry is wearing military uniform, for the first time since 2020.

Prince Harry has worn civilian clothes at public events since the Queen died.

It is the first time in history that the grandchildren of a monarch have taken part in the ceremony.

The King's sons William and Harry are joined by Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, the children of Princess Anne, as well as Prince Andrew's daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, who are Prince Edward's children.

At 44, Peter Philips is the oldest of the Queen's grandchildren, while the youngest, James, Viscount Severn, is 14.

The Palestinian jailbreak that rocked IsraelClose

Six Palestinian men are due in court this week after tunnelling out of one of Israel’s maximum security prisons in September.

Israel had jailed five of the six for carrying out or planning deadly attacks.

It led to renewed fears of a flare-up in the region and saw Israel scramble a massive search, while many Palestinians celebrated the bid for freedom.

But this is about more than just a dramatic jailbreak.

Covering the search for the six, BBC Jerusalem correspondent Tom Bateman unearthed a long story of dispossession, violence and bitter division in a fractured region.
