From The Ga. Dept. of Labor...Georgia's unemployment rate held steady at 3.6% in February, matching January's revised figure and remaining half a percentage point below the national average. GDOL Interim Successor Louis DeBroux noted that 7,200 new jobs were created in February, highlighting Georgia's commitment to business growth and job opportunities. Total jobs reached 4,970,500, with a monthly increase of 7,200 and a year-over-year rise of 28,500. The sectors with the most job gains included Health Care and Social Assistance (1,700), Administrative and Support Services (1,300), and Durable Goods Manufacturing (1,000). However, job losses occurred in Transportation and Warehousing (-2,600) and Accommodation and Food Services (-500). Year-over-year, significant job increases were seen in Health Care and Social Assistance (21,900) and Local Government (7,300), while losses were noted in Administrative and Support Services (-10,900) and Accommodation and Food Services (-3,200). The labor force decreased by 11,681 to 5,391,008 but increased by 10,731 over the year. The number of employed individuals fell by 10,772 to 5,198,860, while the unemployed decreased by 909 to 192,148, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 14,671. Initial unemployment claims also dropped.
