🚨Busy weather weekend coming up for the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia with freezing rain, potential for strong to severe thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Precipitation and saturated soils combined with storms and gusty winds could result in isolated to scattered power outages.

🧊Freezing rain will be possible across the northern mountains and northern Blue Ridge Escarpment at precipitation onset early Saturday morning. Ice accumulations will be light and any freezing rain that develops will transition over to rain later in the day Saturday.

⚡️A strong cold front will bring a line of storms across the area overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. The main threats are locally damaging winds and an isolated tornado or two, mainly along and south of I-85, but can't be ruled out elsewhere.

💨Dry conditions and gusty winds will develop behind the cold front later Sunday morning. Gusts of 30-40 mph will be common across most of the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia through Sunday evening and linger in the higher elevations into overnight Sunday. Gusts of 40-50 mph are expected across portions of the North Carolina mountains, especially above 3500 feet.

Another round of heavy rainfall is likely this evening into tonight as a slow-moving cold front enters the area. Soils could become saturated in some areas by the earlier round of rainfall, and may result in another threat of nuisance to minor stream flooding.
