I like to help people. I am a creative. I have great work ethic.
That’s it. That’s basically me in a very condensed nutshell.
My life has consisted of being a creative person who must always fill that need of making crafty stuff. Which has made me into. what I choose to believe, a fun mom. I have a big, full family, which makes it real hard to get a good pic, so most of the time I just use weird pics of me because I don’t want to leave anyone out. It makes sense to me anyway. Ha ha!
Now for the crazy part... I have a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Oklahoma State University. I actually had a wee career as an actual designer for the first 9 years (pre-children). I worked in floral, residential, and commercial design in which I gleaned all kinds of various skills. Floral design, faux finish & mural painting, hanging wallpaper, installing bathroom and kitchen cabinets, just to name a few.
After kids, I began to work from home and other “family-friendly” occupations. I have been a Southern Living At Home consultant and realized quickly that I was NOT a saleswoman! I just liked their stuff. After all, I am an interior designer. I continued to do interior design consultation, which was way hard, because I had a new baby and hated to leave him anywhere and couldn’t really take him with me. It’s just a little unprofessional.
So, I pursued teaching, which was fun and creative, great hours, summers off, but decided that profession was horrible for me, because I couldn’t wrangle kids all day. Why couldn’t they see the value of my lessons and stay engaged?? Learning is fun! Ugh.
I have also worked in several office settings, sitting at a desk allllll day. I was great at those tasks and easily proved my worth, but would grow complacent after a while. Boring.
I opened my own clothing consignment store business AND a design studio, which ended up closing because I just couldn’t hang in there long enough on a single mom income and provide for 3 kids. Let me tell you, I was working some hours too! But, I loved it.
I then went into the medical field because job security is good and it pays well. I began taking a few classes and decided to become an RN. I had the Bachelor’s, could test out for LPN with RN as the ultimate goal. I worked in this field for a few years and quickly decided to not become an RN and stopped taking classes. Phlebotomy is not my favorite. Rats. The medical field is not for me.
Sigh.
Even after all of these wide experiences, I still had not figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up, which was VERY disappointing and frustrating. I felt like total failure. Quitting. Becoming complacent. Bored. There has to be more than life. I can feel it.
I knew that I have great work ethic, am super creative, and really like to help people. I actually thought that medical administration would be a good option. I did think about it. Hard. But, I also knew all the things I didn’t like or want to do. Even though I liked office work and managing special events for my employers, I hated sitting behind a desk all day. My shoulders hurt, I would get headaches a lot and my butt just got wider. I definitely did not want that!
So that’s how I got here today. I decided that whatever I chose to be, it needed to be from home. I needed something that was flexible. Something I was excellent at. Where I could be present for my family and free from drama and distraction. Where I could eat healthy, stand up to work if I wanted and take a yoga break when I needed to stretch. I needed to work from home.
I decided to combine all my lifetime of experiences, my office skills and creative talents into one big package. I began to discover Virtual Assistants and Copywriters and realized this is it. This what I have been wanting to do my whole life! This fits my personality and the me I want to be!
I began reading every article, listening to podcasts, enrolled in a copywriting course to hone those natural writing skills I have, joined groups, asked questions, and so much more to get started in this endeavor. I haven’t stopped yet and am just getting started. But this is it! I have found my reason and my dream career.
Yes, it’s been a crazy, wacky, unexpected life made from good intentions and wild choices. But, oh, the things I have learned. I know a little about a lot and know how to do an excellent job. Being a Virtual Assistant plus Copywriter is the perfect career for me, which makes me a perfect fit for you.
P.S. I forgot to mention I’ve worked with a realtor, a saloon (yes, as in “bar”) owner and a deer processor, in which I have climbed over and walked through many carcasses in a white lab coat. Just thought I’d toss those in there for added interest. ;-)
