A few weeks ago I headed out to Front Royal and helped a young lady celebrate her 16th birthday with family and friends. Looks like the night was a success!

Now that fall is here I have plenty of weekend availability. DJ and karaoke services are both available!

I hope 2024 is treating everyone well so far. Breaking away from the DJ theme, I am sharing this article for a young Virginia woman dealing with significant health issues due to endometriosis. There is a fundraiser for her expensive surgery that she needs.

She is the topic of a story on the 6 pm news tonight on NBC12 in Richmond. And...most of all...she's my kid sister.

Howdy Facebook world! It has been way too long since I posted here. A lot has changed in the last year.

I personally relocated to Bristow from Fairfax in the early fall of 2022. Being tied up with moving, I didn't have much time to promote the business for much of the year.

But I am now looking to get on my feet with more events in the Bristow/Gainesville/Haymarket/Warrenton areas. I also still do events in my old turf of Fairfax County as well, in addition to other Northern Virginia locations.

My focus remains on family friendly events, especially school and youth events...but I am happy to cover events for folks of all ages.

Please also note that Ving's DJ Service now also has karaoke available! I can also bring the karaoke party to you, in addition to the typical DJ parties.

Long before I became "Ving the DJ" at events in Northern Virginia, I was a young college radio DJ in southern Virginia who managed to branch out to get paid DJ work on two radio stations. The first job was very short lived, but I was able to then spend many hours over the next 5 years at my hometown radio station, WFLO.

Even 25+ years ago, WFLO was one of the last of a dying breed. It gave the opportunity for regular folks from town like myself to be a broadcaster. I played commercials during high school football games and NASCAR races, ran syndicated American Top 40 shows, read countless weather forecasts and jewelry store ads, played many nights of current popular music, and even ran oldies and (one time) country music shows. I actually had the privilege of picking the songs myself, provided I stuck to the format (which I didn't always do!). I even drove the WFLO jeep in a parade once or twice.

While I barely register in WFLO's history as even the faintest of footnotes, WFLO was also where my father Elliott Irving got to live out his dream as a radio broadcaster. Dad is fondly remembered by WFLO staff and listeners to this day. He was best known for his long run as the station's News Director, as well as the host of a popular big band radio show that drew a fan in no less than Don Reid of the Statler Brothers (who became a friend). But Dad did EVERYTHING on air that you could imagine. And the WFLO family truly was my Dad's extended family. My Dad's last day on this world was partly spent on the air at WFLO, doing what he loved.

Today WFLO signs off for the last time after 74 years. WFLO marched to its own drummer. While I didn't always appreciate that in my younger days, my hometown of Farmville was better off for it. A big piece of Farmville's culture is about to sadly disappear forever.

I want to thank Francis Wood At Wflo and everyone else at FLO who was so good to my family over the decades, especially to my old man. Thanks for all you did for Farmville. And while my post-Farmville radio career never became a reality, Ving's DJ Service probably wouldn't be here today without a huge assist from WFLO.

A hometown staple radio station in Farmville is going dark on Friday, December 31 after more than seven decades on the air.

What terrible news. Covenant Christian Academy had been one of my favorite repeat customers, and I got to know Amanda as I DJ'd a variety of events for them. From what I could see, Amanda loved her school family, and was very much a loving mother and wife as well.

This is heartbreaking news. There are no words at a time like this, but I send my heartfelt condolences to Amanda's beloved family, her many friends, and the entire CCA community.

Our beloved Head of School, Amanda Bryson, poured countless hours into developing Covenant Christian Academy into a thriving, Christ-focused, University-Model® school. Her brilliant mind, compassionate heart, and tireless faith left their imprint on every aspect of CCA. Her love for God and His people were evidenced by her joyful spirit, her constant prayers, her reliance on God’s Word, and the hundreds of people who call her their dear friend.

Amanda prayed fervently that a generation of young people would hold fast to God as they go forth into the world. Mrs. Bryson is in the presence of our Lord, but she will be greatly missed. Her love and impact on the CCA community will continue to be felt for many years to come.

Thanks to everyone in Fairfax, Burke, and the rest of Northern Virginia who have made me a part of their good times and happy memories over the last few years.

COVID unfortunately has brought nearly all of that fun to a screeching halt. 2020 has been a lonely year to be a DJ.

I truly hope to be back at some point, but have no illusions that it will happen in the immediate future. But when you're ready, I'm here.
