This week I'm driving around in Mazda's newest model, the 2025 CX-70!

This vehicle is built on Mazda's large vehicle platform, and it shares much more than it doesn't with the CX-90. It's offered with the same powertrains--a 3.3L turbocharged inline-six with a mild hybrid system (in two different outputs) or a plug-in hybrid. The Turbo S Premium Plus I'm in has the high-output version of the straight-six, making 340-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Power goes through Mazda's latest 8-speed automatic transmission, and hits the ground though all four wheels (i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive).

It's full of niceties throughout that cabin, including tons of space! Where this one differs the most from the CX-90 is the fact that it's only available as a two-row.

Full thoughts to come!

2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe this week!

Should crossovers be coupes? Genesis adds their name to the list of automakers that think they should.

Genesis has made a slew of updates for the 2025 model year, including the addition of a coupe. In case you still weren't quite sure who Genesis is targeting, it's even more clear this year that they're aimed squarely at the German competition. In this case: X6, GLE Coupe, and Cayenne Coupe.

While the standard GV80 still offers a choice between a turbocharged four-cylinder and a twin-turbo V6, the coupe gets you the latter with the option to add a 48V electric supercharger for a total output of 409-hp and 405 lb-ft of torque (jumping from 375-hp and 391 lb-ft). The supercharger also gives slight gains in fuel economy.

Other updates for 2025 include new wheel designs, interior trim, infotainment, fragrance diffuser, and more. Full thoughts to come.

The Toyota GR Corolla is getting a facelift and an automatic transmission for 2025, but this week I'm driving the 2024 GR Corolla Premium!

For 2024, there's the Core, Premium, and Circuit to choose from, with the Premium being the sweet spot. Front and rear Torson limited-slip-differentials, cooling brake ducts, heated Brin Naub suede seats, a heated steering wheel, and a wireless charger are some of the highlights for the Premium trim level.

No matter which trim you choose, you get an angry little turbocharged 1.6L 3-cylinder that pumps out 300-hp and 273 lb-ft of torque (295 lb-ft for 2025) and a GR-FOUR selectable all-wheel drive system.

Full thoughts to come!

Spending this week in the 2025 IONIQ 5 N! It's easy to be skeptical when you hear a car is going to have simulated sounds and gears, and even after my first test drive of this car a few months ago some skepticism remained. But now...I'm all in on this thing!

A standard dual motor setup (AWD) makes 601 hp and 568 lb ft of torque for a 0-60 of 3.25 seconds.

Beyond what you get with a standard IONIQ 5, there's beefed up thermal management, regen braking tuned for performance instead of efficiency, selectable torque split, simulated 8-speed dual-clutch, drift mode, a way to simulate a clutch kick, and much more. Full thoughts to come.

Driving the all new 2025 Camry XSE Hybrid AWD this week!

Toyota has been crushing the sedan competition in the US for years with the Camry, and this year it gets even better. The Camry is now hybrid only, with the latest Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), and you can now get any grade with AWD. The powertrain pumps out 225 hp in the FWD version and 232 hp in AWD form, and your only transmission option is an eCVT. I'm addition to the powertrain updates, the suspension, styling, and standard features have all been reworked for the better. Full thoughts to come.

Many of you already guess it, but I'm driving the refreshed Hyundai Elantra N this week!

Hyundai's enthusiast sport compact continues on with some styling and performance tweaks for its mid-cycle refresh. The 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder remains as the powertrain, pumping out 276-hp and 289 lb-ft of torque, with power going through either an 8-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual, and hitting the ground through the front wheels, with a standard limited-slip differential. Updates include cooling, steering, headlights and taillights, front and rear facia tweaks, and more. Full thoughts to come!

This week I'm driving the all new Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo!

The Trofeo gets a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 that pumps out 542-hp and 479 lb-ft of torque through a ZF8-speed transmission, and hitting the ground through a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system. This powertrain uses some fancy F1-inspired technology, with twin-combustion chambers. This results in a super-responsive right pedal, and a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds. The numbers are impressive, but more impressive is how this grand tourer drives! Full thoughts to come!

A little late on the post, but it's truck week this week, with the freshly face-lifted 2025 RAM 1500 Rebel!

Beneath the styling tweaks, the new RAM 1500 also shakes up the powertrain options, dropping the HEMI V8, and adding a 3.0L twin-turbo straight six--dubbed "Hurricane"--in standard and high-output forms. A plug-in hybrid and full EV are also coming. And there's a new luxury-focused Tungsten trim. The monster TRX with the supercharged V8 is now gone as well.

Quite a few changes for a facelift year.

This RAM 1500 Rebel is equipped with the standard output Hurricane engine, that punches out 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque.

Over the course of a couple of days, Stellantis has announced that the V6 Wrangler will be exclusively paired with the manual transmission, and the Gladiator is dropping the stick from the V6 (read: it's gone). Interesting moves. Curious to find out what's behind this.

It's Nissan Z Nismo week! If the Z doesn't quite do it for you performance-wise, Nissan offers up the Z Nismo, which gets you a bump in power and torque, better cooling, a Sport+ driving mode, bigger brakes, updated looks, RECARO seats, lightweight wheels, and more. Full thoughts to come!

Last minute switch-up this week has me driving the newly redesigned 2025 MINI Cooper S 2-Door Hardtop! I'm certainly not complaining!

MINI is still offering familiar powertrains, with the S getting the 2.0L 4-cylinder that produces 201-hp and 221 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels. Though, the three pedal option has now disappeared. Your only transmission choice is the snappy 7-speed dual-clutch.

MINI is going for a MINImalistic style on the outside and the in, but they've kept the proportions largely the same, so this MINI remains quite mini.

More to come! Stay tuned!

Riding in style this week in the newly refreshed 2025 Cadillac CT5!

This year adds a standard 33" display, some updated exterior styling, Google Built-In, and Deep Space and Typhoon exterior colors. I don't know who names these things, but the Typhoon color on my tester might be my new favorite color in automotive.

The CT5 is offered in RWD or AWD form and with a 2.0L twin-scroll turbo 4-cylinder or a 3.0L twin-turbo V6. My tester is AWD with the 3.0L. Either way, you get a 10-speed auto.

This week I'm driving this beast of a car! The 2024 Jeep Wrangler 392 Final(ish) Edition!
This top spec Wrangler gets you all of the off-road goodies--big all-terrain tires, a winch, full-time 4x4, front sway-bar disconnect, front and rear lockers, and a lot more--and a big ol' 392 HEMI. That's a 6.4L naturally-aspirated V8 that makes 470-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque that sounds wonderful and gets you to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Full thoughts to come!

My daughter settled the debate over what makes a sports car. A debate that's started wars and broken up friendships and marriages. When the Type R arrived, she pointed to the wing and shouted to her brother "that means it's a sports car!" So there it is. Wing=sports car. No wing=not. Debate settled.
