BUTTERFLY GARDEN AT THE HOLLYWOOD CEMETERY
The Tallapoosa garden club’s latest project is creating a butterfly garden in Hollywood Cemetery on White Street in Tallapoosa. The garden is registered on the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail. It was designed and planted by master gardeners Zona Hess and Dale Gladden with club member Debbie White. The garden club was federated in 1936.
Thank you goes to the Tallapoosa Garden Club for creating a wonderful space for our community.

*UPDATE*

Cpl. Jon Henderson and Deputy Nicole Ivery responded and investigated the crash. The driver of a Kenworth truck, Corcedric Lathan, out of Birmingham, AL stated that he was driving south on Highway 100 when he came across a grass cutting crew. Latham stated that he went around the crew on the wrong side of the road and then met a log truck in their lane. The driver of the Mack log truck, Jeffery Farlow, out of Ranburne, AL stated that he was traveling north on Highway 100 when a truck came into his lane, and he je**ed the wheel to avoid hitting him. Farlow was able to miss the other truck but did go into the embankment and roll over. Farlow was not injured during the wreck.

The at-fault driver, Corcedric Latham, 33 years old out of Birmingham, AL was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane.

We have another wreck on Highway 100, this time in the area of Crossroads Church Road and the roadway is currently closed. Please avoid the area if possible. They will reopen as soon as the truck is moved. The driver of the truck is not injured.

There is a wreck on US Highway 78 close to Helton Howland Park outside Tallapoosa, GA. Please avoid the area if possible.

Update:
Due to lifeguard staffing issues, the City of Tallapoosa must modify pool hours. The pool will be open this Saturday and Sunday from Noon until 6 p.m. but NOT on Memorial Day.

Unfortunately, we cannot establish a regular schedule for the pool until we have adequate lifeguard coverage.

For now we will be open from 12 (noon) to 6 pm:
Saturday, May 25
Sunday, May 26
Thursday, May 30
Friday, May 31
Saturday, June 1
Sunday, June 2

Utility crews have hit a main water line on Highway 100 South. If you are experiencing low or no water pressure, it is due to this water break. Public work crews are on the scene and trying to make the repairs as quickly as possible.

Tallapoosa, Georgia’s Bentley Ocker (7) has made it into the Top 100 of the USA Mullet Kids Championship. Bentley was inspired to grow his mullet in 2021 by a few of his fellow rodeo buddies. Bentley currently rides ba****ck Bronc and mini bulls with the Southern Association Youth Rodeo in Franklin, Ga. Bentley plans to continue growing out his mullet so he can donate it one day.
Round 2 is based on votes toward your favorite mullet, donations made to the Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors and a panel of judges. Voting will be open from July 20 – 24. Please help us get the word out to help get Bentley to the Top 25. Remember “curls get the girls” and hopefully the votes too!

Bentley started riding in the rodeo in 2021, he was inspired by a couple of his fellow rodeo friends that had mullets. Are you able to help?

Due to an overwhelming increase of need within our community, The Pregnancy Resource Centers are completely out of size newborns, ones, fives, fours, six diapers, along with wipes at all three of their locations. The diapers and wipes that they give away are part of their Material Goods Assistance program that they have. This program has helped a multitude of families within our community. Would you be willing to help them?

They are asking churches, businesses or individuals to help them collect as many diapers as they can so they can continue to help families in our community through our Material Goods Assistance Program. If you are wanting to participate in this opportunity, please email Aisha at [email protected].

Every pack of diapers and wipes that we collect will have a monumental impact on a family in West Georgia. Thank you for your time.
