he Union High History Project to preserve the history of Caroline County Virginia’s only high school for Negroes during segregation. Memories of Union High is the end result of the project. Simmons was also one of several interviewers for the AP Hill Oral History Project. She frequently speaks to genealogy groups on the importance of preserving family and community history. Memories of Union High is the end result of the Union High History Project The purpose of the project was to research, document and preserve the history of Caroline County's only school for Negroes during the era of segregation. Information was gathered from a variety of sources including libraries, historical archives, newspapers and books. Union High alumni, faculty, family and friends were interviewed and their memories documented. They also shared their school memorabilia such as yearbooks, photographs and other school documents.
