The Candid Kiwi Podcast

The Candid Kiwi Podcast Kia Ora and welcome to my podcast. I'm a 'kiwi' living in the USA and have created a podcast to connect us across the globe. This is my goal. Who they are. Enjoy.
(1)

Everyone has a story to tell, and through stories we find human connection. Real stories, real connections. My name is Melissa, and I have a story. I've always been fascinated with others stories. The journey they've taken to get where they are. Through stories we find connection, and this is what I want for my podcast. I want to provide you with my story, as well as others. I want you to feel lif

ted, connected, and walk away with a little more understanding of the human race and who each of us are. I will slowly unpack my story to you, and have guests on my podcast who are willing to share their story. I've always loved conversation. I'm told that I'm able to make people feel at ease--allowing them to tell me their story, without judgment. It's because I'm always so curious about who people really are. I wanted to be a radio host as a child, but life moved forward and I went other places. I'm now at a stage in my life where I've listened to myself and asked myself what I really want. This podcast is what I really want. I feel a strong urge to do this for myself and for others and hope you enjoy this adventure with me as I help connect us--one story at a time. Thanks for joining me and thanks for having a story. Maybe one day we can listen to your story, and make connections with who you are, and where your journey has taken you.

Welcome to episode forty.
This is Topher.
He’s a husband, father and Battalion Chief in Davis County Utah.
Topher thought he wanted to be a dentist but quickly realized that wasn’t for him.
He tells his story of how he became a firefighter and why.
He walks us through starting as a sub one day a month as a firefighter, all the way up to where he is today.
I had no idea how it all worked so appreciated this story.
I’m so grateful that there’s people like Topher out there who can not only fight fires, but save lives.
I couldn’t do it. Come and listen to Topher.
You’ll realize why were such good friends.

Kia Ora.
Welcome to episode thirty six.
This is Ashlee.
Ashlee was a mother of five who thought she was living her dream with her husband and children.
One night, however, detectives came to her door and everything changed. Ashlee’s husband had been shot and killed at her local Walgreens.
Ashlee walks us through that chaotic night and her life moving forward since then.
The murder trail, her blog which has been published into books, her new found love and marriage, two more children, how she healed and more.
She’s been on Dateline NBC Dr. Phil and more.
Ashlee has a website where she coaches and helps those who have gone through trauma.
Her website and social media are on here and my blog.
I learned a lot from sitting and listening to Ashlee and I hope you will too.

Kia Ora

Welcome to my thirty fifth episode. ❤️
In this episode I talk about a breakthrough therapy session I had with Kate.
It was too good to not share with you all. It’s been a loooong winter here in Boise so I talk a little about how that’s been affecting me and my family.
Life is full of ups and downs and it’s how we get through those ups and downs that make us.
I talk about those ups and downs and hopefully share some insights that can help you feel supported, educated and loved.
Know you’re not alone in your struggles and we can pick ourselves up and keep going.
Thanks for your listens and for you’re support.

Kia Ora.
Welcome to episode 34 with my friend Phil.
Phil was brought up in California in a religious family.
He started feeling and knowing he was ‘different’ when he was around four years old.
Phil liked boys but he also knew that he needed to hide that to fit in.
Phil talks to us about his life of confusion as he tried to navigate his childhood.
Then when he became a teen he realized there was a name for how he was feeling. Gay.
He was met with bullying, however, when he confided in a trusted friend and his high school found out.
His days were met with violence and verbal abuse.
His parents kicked him out of home and then he became homeless.
He tried to make it work but one night gave up and attempted su***de.
He was saved and then found a new vigor for life and graduated high school and went to college.
Phil has been married to his husband since it was legal in Idaho and has been with James almost 22 years.
He’s now an educator for Paul Mitchell and is thriving.
Come listen to a story of courage and connect with Phil.

Coming soon will be a story about a lot of things.
My next guests story is about being gay, homeless, attempted su***de, bullying and coming out on top despite all odds.
I love him so much.
He’s made me feel and look beautiful for over a decade doing my hair.
Slowly he’s told me his story but not all of it till now.
I’m honored to have my next guest tell his story soon.
Can’t wait for you to hear him and love him like I do.

So I’ve been working with two guests and their stories.
I really wanted another podcast out this month but their schedules aren’t facilitating that goal 😂
I have to remember I’m at the mercy of other people and their time, work, families etc.
So as much as I wanted my guests story done this month, and worked super hard to make it happen, it’s not going to.
Such is life.
But know that I have two amazing stories coming really soon and maybe March we’ll get them all 😂
Thanks for sticking with me.
Im excited for you to hear these wonderful, beautiful people

Kia Ora
It’s with all the sadness in my whole soul that I write this……..but the world just got a little darker today 5pm Boise time. Through tears that won’t stop falling I wanna tell you that Bro B passed away 😭
He called me Thanksgiving day to tell me he was in a facility and wasn’t breathing well and thought he only had a few days left. 😭
He told me he loved me and I was a light in his life among other things.
We couldn’t hold back the tears as we shared out last video together as long friends.
Words can’t express the hole I feel inside with the loss of such a great person.
What am I going to do without him? 😭 I’ll forever be grateful I captured his story and traveled to Brisbane to spend time with him.
I love him with all my heart and am so sad.
I’m so glad he was in my life.
HE was the light, HE was pure love, HE was joy and laughter. He was the best. To know Bro B was to love him.
My heart aches and goes out to his whanau.
If I feel like this, I can only imagine the loss they feel. ♥️😭❤️
Death is not the end, but it sure hurts to go without for a while.
So for now I’ll mourn the loss of one of the greatest people the world has seen.
Ka kite ano au i a koutou 😭 ❤️😞

Welcome to episode thirty two.
This is my friend from my childhood, Matthew.
We grew up together for almost the first decade of my life.
Then he moved, with his mother, to Hamilton.
That’s where things took a turn for the worst for him.
In his story, he recounts the bullying that happened to him in high school on a daily basis.
It made him want to take his own life. He’s here with us today, however, so he leads us on his journey of why he didn’t, and what life has looked like since that time.
It’s so important to be aware and kind. Matthew’s story is a reminder to be good to each other and to help and speak up where we can.
Come listen to his moving story.

The effects of su***de is something I’ll live with my whole life. So with it being su***de awareness month I knew who’s story I wanted to share.
Hopefully you’ll enjoy episode 32 which will be coming out soon.
His story is one of bullying to the point of wanting to end his life.
But he didn’t.
I hope we all can find hope in our darkness.
Please seek help. You’re never alone.
