The Gasparilla Island State Park remains closed. Barrier Island Parks Society, Inc. has assessed damage for the properties it operates through an engineer, including the lighthouses.

The good news is that the Range Light may need some tightening up. But don't we all.

Lee County has released a flier about the illegal dumping of refuse, including debris, appliances and furniture.

Illegal dumping is an issue, and it is illegal to dump in public, not only on the GICIA path, but in public areas on the island. If it's your mess, it needs to go by your curb, or be hauled away to an approved facility by a licensed contractor. Licensed contractors should not be dumping debris, and residents should question contractors about where they will dispose of debris. They can also ask for disposal receipts.

Residents my leave their refuse on their street, where it will be picked up. Follow all reminders on sorting.

The flier (English and Spanish below) has a contact number, where any illegal dumping can be reported. Call the Lee County Sheriff non emergency line at 239-477-1000 if you see trucks dumping items in public areas.

You can also request action from Lee County at the below address:

We are hearing many questions about sand and its removal, and where it should go. Lee County has put out a flyer to help residents. Short answer is that you may place it on the beach, or on your street right of way, but it MUST be clean. If it goes on the right of way, it will not be immediate.

FLORIDA DEP is available and can answer questions for residents. On this flier there is a QR code where you can ask a question, and find out guidelines. We here at the Beacon called DEP, and they answered us within 2 minutes.

It is Florida DEP, Coastal Construction Control Line.

Water and sewer service is back on over 90 percent of island. Still a few places where it has not come back, and today, they were chasing leaks as they turned on water. Currently all but one of the lift stations (for sewer) are back on FPL power, which is good news for residents and businesses. There are still a few pockets where it has not returned.
