As you are no doubt aware the Indiana University Student Academic Assistants are, once again, threatening to strike on September 26. You may remember that back in April, pro-union PhD students formed a “picket line,” shutting down some of the operations in the College of Arts and Sciences building.

Aspects of Critical Race Theory, an academic framework that views society and people through the lens of race, are now taught in many IU undergraduate classrooms. The ideology has made its way all across campus, reaching from the College of Arts and Sciences to the Kelley School of Business.

Indiana University announced Friday that starting on March 4, masks will be optional across nearly all of the university’s campuses. IU noted that the “action will coincide with the anticipated expiration of state and county public health orders” and offered the surprising rationale that “COVID-19 cases [are] declining rapidly at IU and throughout the state” as a justification for their decision.

During a Fall Student Congress Meeting, Student Body President Ky Freeman told attendees that general ideas of “professionalism” are “racist” and “misogynistic,” according to multiple student representatives.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, one of Freeman’s executive branch nominees, all of whom must be confirmed by Congress, addressed the body, irate that she had been denied the position by the Student Life Committee. She alleged, without citing any evidence, that the committee had been biased against her.

According to Open Secrets, employees of Indiana University donated over $740,000 to political campaigns in the 2020 election cycle; over $700,000 of that went to Democrats and candidates, such as Bernie Sanders, that are classified as independent. Just over $380,000 went to Joe Biden and his presidential campaign with the other top two recipients being Pete Buttigieg with over $89,000 and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee with just over $80,000. Bernie Sanders was the obvious leader among Independents bringing in over $78,000 from IU employees.

Indiana basketball kicked off the week with a win over Eastern Michigan. Head coach Mike Woodson’s first career game starts on a high note, but perhaps not in the fashion he wanted. The Hoosiers led by 21 points at one time, but the Eagles came storming back to make it a two point game with under a minute left. Fortunately, Indiana was still able to squeak out a 68–62 win.

In an email to members of the IU community this week, President Pamela Whitten announced a “first-of-its kind” diversity hiring fund at IU.

The Presidential Diversity Hiring Initiative is an upcoming seven-year program that plans to use “reallocated non-academic funds, as well as external gifts” to focus on “hiring professors from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education.”

Saturday afternoon, facing another tough opponent from Ohio, the Hoosiers held a fourteen point lead, but mistake after mistake eventually led to a loss against #8 Cincinnati. The game changed dramatically after a questionable targeting call against star linebacker Micah McFadden on 3rd & 10. McFadden was ejected from the game due to the call and Cincinnati soon after scored a touchdown.

Unfortunately, Indiana fans know this feeling all too well. In 2017, the Hoosiers led at halftime over #2 Ohio State,

The Hoosiers’ performance in Bloomington was a stark contrast from the team’s showing in Iowa City. Indiana crushed the Idaho Vandals 56–14 Saturday and certainly showcased a remarkably different level of skill and talent than was shown during the embarrassing loss for Tom Allen and his squad the previous week.

A student-led effort to paint an “All Lives Matter” mural on Indiana University’s campus has been blocked by the City of Bloomington, despite the city’s approval of a “Black Lives Matter” mural on Jordan Avenue only a few months ago.

The proposed All Lives Matter mural would feature large, block letters similar to the BLM mural. It would feature a thin blue line and red line to offer support to first responders.

As previously reported by The Crimson Post, Indiana University recently received a tremendous amount of pressure from students, faculty, and state government officials to reverse their decision to require all students and staff to submit documentation proving they had received the COVID-19 vaccine. IU officials subsequently dropped the documentation requirement, now mandating that students merely self-report their “vaccination status.” Students will also now be allowed to request medical and religious exemptions in accordance with state law. One IU student, Kendyll Pennington, started a petition for the university to reverse the mandate that, as of this writing, has roughly 12,000 signatures. The Crimson Post had the opportunity to speak with Pennington about what compelled her to start the petition and her feelings regarding IU’s latest decision.

On Tuesday, Indiana University notified students of changes in the school’s COVID-19 vaccine policy. Students will still largely be required to receive the vaccine before attending classes in the Fall, however, students may now request an exemption for religious or medical reasons or if they plan to be fully remote for the entirety of the semester. Students will also no longer be required to upload documentation proving they are fully vaccinated but will instead be allowed to simply attest that they received the vaccine. These changes come as the university faces mounting criticism from students, state legislators, and the Indiana Attorney General
