We are asking random subscribers what they love most about living in Oregon and where they’d like to go in Oregon where they never yet been. We love our subscribers! They keep us going. 🥰

Hello Linda!

“What I love about Oregon is the history of this beautiful state and the natural beauty of mountains, the ocean, lakes, rivers, and an abundance of places to explore indoors and out! Not many other states could rival Oregon! I once read that each person has “a map on their heart” of where they love to live and be. Oregon and the entire PNW, for me, is that very map. I am a native Oregonian and proud to be able to say this!
My father was born and raised in Astoria and, at nine years old, walked up the hill with his friends and watched the workers build the Astoria Column. Astoria is a very important Oregon town because of my Finnish heritage. My mother was from Woodburn and later lived in Salem. My sisters, brother and I were raised in Hillsboro.

My favorite place to immerse myself in Oregon nature is the Mt Hood wilderness area. I enjoy hiking the many trails nearby. I summited Mt. Hood with the Oregon-based mountaineering group Mazamas in May 1981 but more recently hiked, two times, to Silcox Hut on the south side of Mt. Hood Silcox Hut is at the 7.000 ft level, approximately one mile above Timberline Lodge.

One place I have never visited in Oregon is the small town of Joseph and Wallowa Lake. This is a place on my list of “must see” destinations and I can hardly wait to schedule time to travel there! My hope is to photograph the surrounding mountains in late spring-time.”

New Exhibition Opening at Bend’s High Desert Museum! In the early 1900s, Japanese immigrant Frank S. Matsura moved to rural and opened a portrait studio. He soon attracted many clients, including individuals and families from area Tribal communities. The results were visually potent, intimate and collaborative photographs telling nuanced stories of Indigenous identity.

On February 1, the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon will open “Frank S. Matsura: Portraits from the Borderland,” an exhibition that shares Matsura’s large-scale images as well as objects that bring the era to life. Plan your visit today! https://highdesertmuseum.org/
