Beavers travel to Mankato for NSIC Outdoor Championships

BSU Women’s Track & Field ready to compete at conference championship

The Bemidji State University Women's Track and Field Team's championship season gets underway this weekend as it heads to Mankato, Minn., to compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Outdoor Championships held at the Minnesota State Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

The event will take place from Thursday, April 9 and run until Saturday but Bemidji State will not send any student-athletes to compete in multi-events Thursday. The Beavers will compete Friday and Saturday.

NSIC Tournament Central

Lexi Erickson (1500-meter), Mary Goodwin (3000-meter Steeplechase), Tierra Doss (Shot Put) and Zayda Priebe (Discus) will each be looking to improve their NCAA Provisional marks to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Emporia, Kan.

Beaver Battle set for home finale at BSU Baseball Field Wednesday

BSU Baseball to host Minot State for final home series Wednesday

The Bemidji State University Baseball team plays its final home series of the 2024 season Wednesday afternoon and hosts Minot State University for a "Beaver Battle" at the BSU Baseball Field.

BSU hosts Minot State for a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 1.

Senior Jack Munson paces the Beavers batting .314 and has started all 45 games. In 153 at bats, he has produced 48 hits including 10 doubles, eight home runs and has driven in 23 runs. Munson has been on a hot streak over the last 10 games batting .471, slugging 1.029 and has an on-base percentage of .514 for an OPS of 1.543.

Munson is followed by junior Hunter Daymond who is batting .266 with 29 hits in 109 at bats and is the toughest to strikeout in the NSIC boasting a strikeout percentage of 6.42. He is batting .346 over the last 10 games and has reached base in the last six.

Junior Derek Hoffman leads the Beavers' pitching staff with 31.1 innings pitched but has been sidelined due to injury. He is followed by junior Brandon Lind who has pitched 28.2 innings and is 1-4 with an 8.16 ERA. Over his last two starts, Lind is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and has struck out 10 while holding opposing hitters to just a .263 batting average.

The Beavers end the 2024 season on the road at St. Cloud State University, Friday and Saturday.

Track & Field to compete at Joe Sweeney Invite at St. Thomas

BSU Women’s Track & Field travels to St. Paul for mid-week event

The Bemidji State University Women's Track & Field Team hits the road for a mid-week event this week and travels to St. Paul, Minn., to compete at the Joe Sweeney Invitational hosted by University of St. Thomas.

Fans can watch the meet here and follow live results, here. Field events kick-off at 12 p.m. with hammer throw and track events will begin at 4 p.m. with the 3,000-meter Steeplechase.

The Beavers will try to improve on two NCAA Provisional marks and 11 personal records set last weekend at the Drake Relays, Vikings Classic and Rider Bolstorff Invite. Bemidji State's Tierra Doss (Shot Put), Lexi Erickson (1500m) and Mary Goodwin (3000m Steeplechase) currently hold NCAA Provisional qualifying marks in their respective events.

Beaver Fever Friday - Stella Dolan - Softball

BSU Softball makes final playoff push at home by hosting Dragons and Wolves

Beavers host MSU Moorhead and Northern State for final doubleheaders of regular season

The Bemidji State University Softball team will make its final push to qualify for the 2024 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Softball Tournament this weekend and hosts Minnesota State University, Moorhead and Northern State University this weekend at the BSU Softball Field.

The Beavers (13-34, 7-17 NSIC) first host the Dragons (28-18, 15-9 NSIC) Friday, April 26 for a doubleheader at Noon and then host the Wolves (21-23, 7-17 NSIC) Saturday at 1 p.m. The teams are scheduled to play at the BSU Softball Field but rain could push the doubleheaders to Chet Anderson Stadium. Bemidji State will need to win three-of-four games over the weekend to be in contention for the 10th and final spot in the NSIC postseason tournament. The Beavers sit 3.5 games back of current 10th seed Southwest Minnesota State University and are in a three-way tie for 11th with Northern State and University of Minnesota, Crookston. BSU also needs to sweep the Wolves on the final day of the regular season.

Bemidji State will host Senior Day in between games Saturday against Northern State and will honor its two seniors, Stella Dolan and Stephanie Ferguson, for their hard work and dedication to the BSU Softball program for the past four seasons.

The Beavers are led at the plate by junior Alexa Christenson and senior Molly Houts. The pair are each batting .333 but Christenson paces the Beavers with 53 hits in 159 at bats. Houts leads the team in OPS (.840) with a team-high .382 slugging percentage and .458 on-base percentage while also tying for the team lead with 22 RBI. Houts' .458 on-base percentage is the seventh highest in the NSIC and second-highest in program history. Houts is tied with freshman Jackie Larsen for the team lead in RBI (22), while Larsen paces the Beavers with 13 stolen bases and is batting .289.

Senior Stella Dolan leads the Beavers in the circle as their ace. She has made 36 appearances and 24 starts in her senior campaign. She has made the second-most appearances in the NSIC and is tied for seventh in Division II. She has pitched in an NSIC leading 183 innings, the second most in DII and third most across all divisions in the NCAA. She has compiled a 10-15 record this season with an ERA of 3.90, the second lowest of her career. She is 21 innings away from setting a program record for most innings pitched in a single season (Jessica Yost, 203.2).

Beavers travel south for NSIC Women’s Golf Championship

BSU Women’s Golf to compete at 54-hole championship Friday-Sunday

The Bemidji State University Women's Golf team gets its championship season underway this weekend and travels to Smithville, Mo., to compete at the 2023-24 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Golf Championship April 26-28.

The Beavers will compete at the par-72, 5,950-yard Paradise Pointe Golf Complex – Outlaw Golf Course for the 54-hole, three day tournament for an automatic bid into the NCAA Regional.

Bemidji State will be sending senior Maddy Sawyer, freshman Elli Anderson, freshman Haylee Kammann, junior Savannah Byfuglien and freshman Nakomis Mitchell to compete at the tournament.

Sawyer paces the group with a season scoring average of 89.7 through 14 rounds. Anderson is close behind with a 90.3 scoring average through 16 rounds while Kammann (91.4), Byfuglien (93.0) and Mitchell (98.8) each follow.

The Beavers are coming off the Wildcat Classic on April 15 where Byfuglien paced the team to a 13th finish shooting 179 (87-92).

Beavers to compete in Des Moines and St. Paul beginning Thursday

BSU Women’s Track & Field to send student-athletes to Drake Relays, Viking Classic and Rider/Bolstorff Invite

The Bemidji State University Women's Track & Field Team continues its outdoor season this weekend and will send its student-athletes to the Drake Relays and Viking Classic in Des Moines, Iowa as well as the Rider/Bolstorff Invite in St. Paul, Minn.

The weekend begins at the Drake Relays on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines and begins Thursday, April 25 through Saturday. Beavers will also compete at the Viking Classic hosted by Grandview University in Des Moines Friday. The weekend ends Saturday with the final day of the Drake Relays and at the Rider Bolstorff Invite on the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul.

BSU Baseball hosts Concordia-St. Paul this weekend

Beavers to honor four seniors in final weekend home series

The Bemidji State University Baseball team makes its return home this weekend and hosts Concordia University-St. Paul for a three-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series at BSU Baseball Field.

With weather permitting, the Beavers host the Golden Bears Saturday, April 27 for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The teams will then play the series finale Sunday at Noon. BSU will honor its four seniors Jack Munson, Tyrese Allen, Konrad Kisch and AJ Gengler following Saturday's doubleheader.

Munson paces the Beavers at the plate and is batting .303 with 43 hits in 142 at bats and has an OPS of .840 with a .500 slugging percentage and .340 on-base percentage. He leads the team with 10 doubles, second with six home runs and second with 20 RBI. Senior Ty Karger leads the team with seven home runs and 23 RBI and is slugging .544 with four home runs over the last eight games.

Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award – Halle Peterson (Soccer)
Fifth Year – Defense – Stillwater, Minn.

Halle Peterson led the Beavers playing in 94.7 percent of the team's minutes on the pitch totaling 1,980 minutes during the 2023 season. She was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year, All-NSIC First Team selection, and two-time All-Region selection. She helped the Beavers to a NSIC Tournament Championship and third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. She solidified the Beavers' backline that limited opponents to just 95 shots on goal and 16 goals over 23 games including 12 shutouts. Not only a shutdown defender, Peterson also contributed offensively tying for the NSIC lead with four goals from the backline. She also excelled in the classroom and is a Scholar All-America First Team selection.

Caden appeared in 25 rounds for the Beavers during his freshman season and averaged 75.8 strokes per 18 holes with an average of four-over par, the third-best average on the team. His best finish this season was at the NSIC Championship where he tied for second earning NSIC All-Tournament Team status. He Posted his best round this season of 72 on five different occasions with the most recent coming at the NSIC Championship helping the Beavers to their first NSIC Championship since 2000.

Beaver Nation Celebration 2024

As we near the end of the 2023-24 season, Bemidji State University Athletics honored its 386 student-athletes at the 2024 Beaver Nation Celebration Tuesday night. A night filled celebrating the triumphs and successes of its student-athletes was capped-off as four Beavers were selected from a pool of nominations as Bemidji State's Student-Athletes of the Year.

Bemidji State Women's Soccer defender Megan Ko and men's golfer Caden Lick were voted as the Beavers' 2023-24 Female and Male Newcomers of the Year. Women's soccer defender Halle Peterson and men's hockey defenseman Kyle Looft were highlighted as BSU's Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year.

In addition, softball senior Stella Dolan was named the recipient of the fifth annual BSU Community Impact Award for her involvement around campus groups and service to the community.

16 student-athletes also excelled in the classroom achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA and were named Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Zack Seitz (Football), Bill Ketola (Football), Logan Schoepp (Golf), Logan Acheson (Hockey), Patrik Satosaari (Hockey), Rachel Koenig (Basketball), Sydney White (Basketball), Mary Goodwin (Cross Country/Track), Abbie Thompson (Hockey), Taylor Nelson (Hockey), Isabella Vannavong (Soccer), Katrina Barthelt (Soccer), Lilian Wade (Soccer), Alyssa Hill (Track/Basketball), Kylie Struble (Volleyball) and Lauren Sitter (Volleyball) were all recognized as Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

The Bemidji State Volleyball team was recognized as this year's Outstanding Female Academic Team compiling a team GPA of 3.72 and the Men's Hockey team was awarded the Outstanding Male Academic Team totaling a team GPA of 3.58.

In total, 61 seniors were recognized during the event in addition to 16 NSIC Myles Brand Academic with Distinction Award winners and two NSIC Elite 18 Award winners, Maggie Cade (Soccer) and Logan Schoepp (Golf).

Community Impact Award – Stella Dolan (Softball)

Stella has made a tremendous impact throughout the community while also serving on student and professional committees. Stella has served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee that has organized numerous events to help people within the community. She has volunteered her time with the United Way of Bemidji, the Mount Zion Church Soup Kitchen and has helped teach multiple youth softball programs throughout the Bemidji and St. Paul communities. She's served on many young professionals committees including the BSU President's Student Commission Council and Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network and has presented for Minnesota Undergraduate Scholars, Nebraska Business Honors Academy Case Competition and the Bemidji State Student Achievement Conference. In addition, Stella has been awarded the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic Award, a three-time NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence selection and two-time BSU Most Outstanding Major Award winner in Sport Management.

Fifth Year – Defenseman – Mankato, Minn.

Kyle captained the Beavers to a CCHA Regular season championship and CCHA Tournament championship game appearance during the 2023-24 season. He was named the CCHA's Defenseman of the Year and Best Defensive Defenseman while also earning All-CCHA First Team honors. He finished second on the team despite missing six games due to injury and posted 28 points in 32 games, leading the team with 22 assists. Kyle led all league defenseman in points and finished seventh among all league skaters averaging 0.88 points per game and finished second in the conference with an on-ice rating of +17. Four times during the season he was named league Defenseman of the Week and twice the Defenseman of the Month.

Beavers post marks at Cal State Twilight Open, Bryan Clay and Minnesota State Open

Goodwin and Doss set NCAA Provisional marks in 3000m Steeplechase and Shot Put

The Bemidji State University Women's Track & Field team sent student-athletes to the California-State Los Angeles Twilight Open, Bryan Clay Invite and Minnesota State Open this past weekend where 31 personal records were set and two NCAA Provisional qualifiers were met.

Seniors Mary Goodwin and Tierra Doss each hit NCAA Provisional qualifying marks in the 3000-meter Steeplechase and Shot Put, respectively, at the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa Calif. Goodwin's time of 10:51.83 in the steeplechase also broke her own program record in the event while senior Alexis Erickson also broke her own program record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:33.21.

Golden Eagles sweep BSU Baseball in Crookston Wednesday

Beavers fall 8-3 and 15-1 in doubleheader at Minnesota Crookston

The Bemidji State University Baseball team fell in both games of its doubleheader at University of Minnesota, Crookston Wednesday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. The Beavers fell 8-3 in game one and then 15-1 in game two.

Freshman Matt Filippi and senior Jack Munson each collected two of the Beavers six hits in the first game of the day with Filippi hitting a triple and Munson hitting a home run.

Freshman Dylan Hedley got the Beavers started with an RBI single in the second inning and was followed by a solo home run from Munson in the fourth. Ty Karger hit another solo home run in the seventh inning to cap-off the Beavers' scoring and hit his third home run in two games.

The Beavers struggled at the plate in game two collecting just three hits and scored a single run off of a wild pitch. Hedley scored the run in the third inning taking advantage of a wild pitch after he hit a lead-off single.

Freshman Zach Evenson earned the loss in game one after he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed eight runs off 10 hits but struck out a season-high six batters. Matt Filippi earned the loss in game two and pitched 4.1 innings allowing 11 runs (10 earned) off 12 hits.

The Beavers will head back out on the road and travel to Aberdeen, S.D., for a three-game series against Northern State University, Saturday-Sunday.

Beavers tally most runs since 2019 in split with Golden Eagles

BSU Softball blanks Minnesota Crookston 15-0 in game one but fall 6-5 in game two

The Bemidji State University Softball team exploded for 15 runs in game one at University of Minnesota, Crookston Wednesday afternoon but the Golden Eagles held on to claim a 6-5 victory in game two to salvage the split in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader.

The Beavers scored the most runs since 2019 totaling 15 runs off 13 hits in a 15-0 dominant victory in game one. Leading the way for Bemidji State was junior Aimee Christenson who went 3-for-4 at the plate with a career-high six RBI off a home run, double and was a triple away from the cycle.

She was joined by freshman Jackie Larsen who went 2-for-3, hit her first collegiate home run and added a double, walk and drove in four runs. Sophomore Morgan Benedict joined the home run party and hit her first of the season and finished the game going 2-for-4 with a home run, base hit and three RBI.

Senior Stella Dolan was just as dominant in the circle as the Beavers were at the plate and held the Golden Eagles to just five hits and collected her second shutout of the season. She improved to 8-14 on the season after pitching all five innings and earned four strikeouts.

The Beavers fell just short of a comeback in game two and after trailing 5-0 after the third inning, they stormed back to pull within one with a four-run fourth inning. However, they came just short of the tying run eventually falling 6-5 in the game.

BSU used consecutive base hits to get on the scoreboard stringing together six consecutive hits in the fourth to score four runs. The Beavers didn't get an extra-base hit in the game and nine different batters collected a hit.

Larsen and senior Molly Houts led the team with two hits each while Houts, Mariah Stevenson, Dolan, Avery Amidon and Maddie Kielsmeier each hit RBI singles.

Freshman Danica Sarff earned the loss in the circle pitching two innings and allowed four runs (two earned) off two hits, walked two and struck out four.

The Beavers will continue play on the road and travel to Bismarck and Minot, N.D., for a pair of doubleheaders against University of Mary and Minot State University Saturday-Sunday, respectively.

Beavers Men’s Golf travels to Missouri to defend NSIC Championship title

BSU Men’s Golf begins 2024 NSIC Championship Friday morning

The 2024 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men's Golf Championship begins this weekend and the Bemidji State University Men's Golf team travels to Missouri looking to defend its championship title from last season.

The NSIC Men's Golf Championship is a three-day, 54-hole championship held at the par-72, 6,848-yard Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. The Beavers will tee-off for round one Friday, April 16 with set tee-times beginning at 9 a.m., Friday and Saturday. The final round Sunday will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The winning team will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Regional Tournament and the top five individual finishers will be named to the NSIC All-Tournament Team.

Bemidji State is the defending NSIC Men's Golf Champions, holding off Winona State by one stroke, to earn its 16th NSIC title, its first since 2000. The Beavers had four players in the top seven, including three earning NSIC All-Tournament Team honors by finishing in the top five.

Brandon Bervig, Koby Kuenzel, Logan Schoepp, Tate Usher and Caden Lick are the five golfers who will compete for Bemidji State at the championship. Bervig paces the Beavers and paces the Beavers and is 11th in the NSIC with a 74.0 scoring average through 21 rounds this season. Kuenzel (74.9), Schoepp (75.1), Usher (75.4) and Lick (76.0) each follow.

The NSIC has Winona State eighth and Minnesota State ninth in the third and final NCAA Men's Golf Regional Ranking of 2023-24. The NCAA Midwest/Central Super Regional will be played on May 9-11 at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond, Oklahoma; hosted by Southern Nazarene University. Two individuals and a minimum of three teams from each regional will advance to the finals, while the eight remaining team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships.

Erickson and Goodwin break program records as Beavers take fourth at Norse Invite

Lexi Erickson and Mary Goodwin set new program records in 10000m Run and 3000m Steeplechase

Bemidji State University Women's Track & Field student-athletes Lexi Erickson and Mary Goodwin broke program records in the 10,000-meter Run and 3,000-meter Steeplechase, respectively, as the Beavers finished fourth at the Norse Invite on the campus of Luther College in their first outdoor action of the season.

Both Erickson and Goodwin won their events as Erickson broke a 21-year program record in the 10,000-meter run besting Martha Miltich's previous school record by over a minute set in 2003. She ran a time of 37:37.58, the 44th fastest time in the event among all NCAA Division II athletes.

Goodwin broke her own previous school record in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase by a second with a time of 10:54.08, the 11th fastest time in the event among all DII athletes. Goodwin owns nine of the 10 fastest times in BSU history in the event.

The Beavers' 4x100-meter Relay team of Olivia Olson, Abbie Disbrow, Abby Syverson and Janice Cole also took first with a time of 49.95.

The Beavers totaled 101 points as a team to finish fourth at the tournament falling just short of conference leader Minnesota State University, Mankato by 17 points.

A small group from the team will head to California this week, while the rest of the team will head to the Minnesota State Open in Mankato.

Women’s Tennis travels to Bismarck for matches against Mary and MSU Moorhead

BSU Women’s Tennis to take on Marauders and Dragons

The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team is back in action and concludes Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with a road trip to Bismarck, N.D., to face University of Mary and Minnesota State University, Moorhead at the Mandan Tennis Center, Friday and Saturday.

The Beavers first face-off against the Marauders (5-6, 4-2 NSIC) Friday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m., followed by taking on the Dragons (5-7, 2-4 NSIC) Saturday at 12:30 p.m. A live stream of the match can be found, here.

Freshman Kate Taylor has played all nine matches at No. 1 singles for the Beavers and is 1-8 on the season. Fellow freshman Valesca Rodriguez has played all nine matches at No. 2 singles and is also 1-8. Sophomore Emilia Sand has played eight-of-nine matches at No. 3 and is 1-7 while freshman Ana Lucia Ibanez bas played one match at No. 3 (1-0) but has played eight matches at No. 4 and is 2-6. Laura Burger has played eight matches at No. 5 and is 0-8 while Isabela Nelson has played eight matches at No. 6 and is 0-8.

The doubles team of Taylor and Rodriguez has played every match at No. 1 doubles and are 1-8 while the team of Ibanez and Sand are 1-7 at No. 2 and senior Sophie Groen and Nelson are 3-2 at No. 3.
