The moment Barrington 2020 graduate Lukas VanNess found out he was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft last night. According to a blog post on the Packers.com Web site, Van Ness was a hockey player from birth and didn't dive fully into football until his final two seasons at Barrington High School. He entered the Iowa football program during the heart of the COVID pandemic, redshirting his freshman year, while adding 60 pounds to his frame. "I just came in as a long, tall, lanky kid who had the frame and the ability once I got in the right program to grow and develop," said Van Ness. "I feel super comfortable with my development, and I feel like it was crucial to the way my career played out at Iowa." Last season, Lukas Van Ness registered 38 tackles (11 for loss) and 6.5 sacks. He was voted second-team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and media. "I do think he's (Van Ness) going to play right away, and he'll help us right away," said Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst. "There's so much technique to that to be able to win in this league. It all takes them a little bit of time. But I would expect him to be able to help us this year." ******Video from ESPN. Todd โHappyโ Rhodes has come back to his โRootsโ opening an artisan general store in the heart of Barrington. A school bus driver for D220 during the day and the owner of the former Grassroots and Alley 59 many years ago, his new shop - ROOTS - is now open in the front half of Barrington Flower Shop. The store features artisan gifts, customized and personalized clothing, accessories and kicks, vintage concert posters, his own brand of BBQ sauce, salsa, jams, pumpkin butter, locally sourced coffee and so much more. โWe missed the old Grassroots and members of the community kept asking us when we were coming back,โ said Todd. โOur vision is to make this a family friendly establishment where there are items for everyone and kids can ride their bikes here to hang out.โ The shop also sells snack items such as giant Bavarian pretzels, served with a side of his jam or mustard for dipping, soda, water and Peace tea. Todd also positions the company as a full-fledged marketing company, making branded apparel such as flannels, hats and hoodies for individuals, companies, groups or general bulk orders. Coming Soonโฆ.Front Porch Lounging events featuring live music on the porch, ladies cool and casual apparel, a NEW Bloody Mary mix and a whole range of nuts.
A U-pick flower farm is now open in Barrington! Little Ducky Flower Farm is operated by Chris and Sarah Yamamoto who recently moved to the area from Connecticut. Their home life consists of 16 ducks, four geese, seven sheep, and hundreds of plants living together on just under seven acres. Their farming adventures started with growing their own food, which then expanded to include flowers. โThis is a unique experience because guests can enjoy our fields on their own without crowds and feel comfortable bringing these flowers into their homes because we donโt use pesticides or other chemicals. You also wonโt see these flowers in the typical grocery store because these varieties donโt like coolers. We look forward to sharing the farm with the community,โ said Chris. Open by appointment only, pick your own flower slots are available in 30-minute increments every day between the hours of 4 โ 7 p.m. Flower varieties include zinnias, cosmos, dahliasโฆwith sunflowers coming soon. U-pick containers are $25 during this soft opening period. Another bonus! Bring the cup back and get $5 off your next bouquet. #barringtonil #barringtonillinois

Vault 232, Lake Zurichโs latest restaurant and fish market, is ready for business after officially opening its doors earlier this month. Whether youโre a seafood lover, steak enthusiast or plant-based, the surf and turf restaurant serves something for everyone and features a fine dining room, patio, banquet room, raw bar and bar. Vault 232 is a second act for owner Frank Radogna, a Tower Lakes resident, and executive chef/partner, Jorge Ojeda. Radogna retired from his transportation company and opened Francoโs Pescheria in Lake Zurich while immediately drafting his expansion plan. The name of his new concept references โVault" due to the building's past as a bank and "232" as the size of the LZ lake in acres. The design adheres to the buildingโs history while featuring Venetian culinary influences. The bar was built from the original 1930โs bank teller line. An old vault now serves as an entrance to a wine cellar and custom double vault doors welcome guests into a private dining and party room. A special menu will be available during the last day of Alpine Fest, including festival favorites with a high-end twist โ mini corn dogs, walking tacoโs, short rib sandwiches, funnel fries, churro sundaeโs and more. Seatings are on a first come, first serve basis. For more information and hours, visit @vault232.
