UPDATE-
The Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 between Maine and New Hampshire was shut down in both directions Thursday morning due to an active police scene.
The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office confirmed at 7 a.m. that police shot and killed a man on the bridge. That man was wanted for allegedly killing a woman at a home in Troy, New Hampshire. Investigators say an 8-year-old child was also found shot to death inside the man's vehicle.
No names were being released. A Maine State Police spokesperson told Maine's Total Coverage the male child was missing before being found dead in the car.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is now investigating the officer-involved shooting incident.
It is about 95 miles between Troy, New Hampshire, and the bridge.
Motorists are expected to see heavy traffic in the area between the New Hampshire line and Exit 7.
York Police are encouraging drivers to use Route 1 to get into New Hampshire this morning. However, by 6:30 a.m., there were significant backups and delays on Route 1 in Kittery with traffic at a standstill south of the ramp for Exit 2 on the Turnpike as drivers try to use the other bridges between Maine and New Hampshire. Traffic over both of the other bridges was slow by 7 a.m. Traffic was slow all the way to the Portsmouth traffic circle in New Hampshire and the circle itself was backed up.
