Earlier today, Azusa High School received a threatening phone call from an unidentified caller.

In response, additional law enforcement personnel from Azusa PD and neighboring agencies were immediately deployed to the campus to ensure the safety of students and staff. After a careful and thorough assessment, the threat was determined to be not credible.

The investigation to identify the source of the call remains ongoing. The safety and security of our schools is our highest priority, and we remain fully committed to providing a safe learning environment for the youth of our community.

On August 19 at approximately 10 PM, Azusa PD officers conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of a man found to be in possession of illegal items.

During the course of the stop, officers observed signs that the driver was under the influence of drugs. A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of a ghost gun, controlled substances and a large amount of cash.

The driver, identified as Donevin Ramirez, 19, was taken into custody without incident.

The Azusa Police Department is aware there have been sightings of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in our city. There is a video circulating that shows ICE agents at a red light behind one of our officers. This was solely a coincidence due to proximity.

Azusa PD does not enforce civil immigration laws and we do not ask about individual’s immigration status when responding to calls.

As always, if you are a victim of a crime, a witness, or in need a police assistance, please contact us. Our personnel will continue to provide police service, regardless of immigration status. We are proud to serve a diverse community and encourage our community members to remain calm and stay informed of their rights.
