DUI arrest leads to loaded gun being found.

On 11/13/22 at approximately 0143 hours, Officer Phillips conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding on Bellevue Road and Seventh Street. Upon contacting the driver, officers believed the subject to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

After conducting Field Sobriety Tests the subject was placed under arrest for DUI. An inventory search of the vehicle was conducted and a loaded handgun was located in the center console of the vehicle. The subject was transported and booked into Merced County Jail for the following charges:
25850(A) PC (Carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle), 23152(A) and 23142(B) CVC (DUI over 0.08 percent) and for 22350 CVC (unsafe speed).

Crime/Traffic/Homelessness is off the hook in Atwater! Please support your local police/fire and vote YES on Measure B.

We don’t have enough police officers and firefighters, and they’re literally going call to call and are unable to proactively deal with all of the problems.

Liberal, defund the police critics, like to post on local blogs about our corrupt city council, or complain the tax will never end, but they never offer a solution.

Please go to the City of Atwater website and read the measure for yourself and make an informed decision.

If the defund police crowd are successful, and Measure B fails, things will only get worse. Paying an extra ½ cent tax for your community to be safe, is not asking much.

You decide, please vote!

Per APD

Atwater PD investigating a Fatal Traffic Collision

On 11/2/22 at approximately 0930 hours, APD Dispatch received a call of an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Augusta Ln and E. Juniper Ave.

Officers were dispatched to the location and upon arrival found a single vehicle collision involving a black Chrysler Mini Van, 2 pedestrians, and a light pole. The pedestrians were declared deceased at the scene. The Vehicle was traveling westbound on E. Juniper when it left the roadway striking the pedestrians and a light pole. The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigating officers. The reason the vehicle left the roadway is under investigation. The identities of the deceased are being withheld until the notification of next of kin.

E. Juniper will be closed until approximately 12:00 pm while the investigation is being completed. The police department is asking for residents to stay out the area.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Atwater Police Department needs the public’s help in gathering information related to this case. If a member of the public has information or observed anything related to this case, please contact the Atwater Police Department at 209-357-6384.
