I completed round one of a cohort based course called Ship 30 for 30.

My goal in taking the course was to complete the manuscript for the book I’ve been trying to write for the last two years.

Life happened a LOT this past couple of years and my focus has refined - not changed.

Instead of writing a book right now, I am launching a newsletter. Join me over the next 30 days as I embark on Round Two of Ship 30 for 30. This time as I share my journey of creating the newsletter.

Round One of Ship 30 for 30 convinced me that my dream of writing a book (right now) is dead. I still hope to write a book one day but Ship 30 introduced me to a new world that is more suited for my Neurosparkle. Join me on Round two as I prepare to launch my Neurosparkle Newsletter!

What do you do when everything that can go wrong really does to wrong? That’s what we got to find out at this hotel photo shoot.

Lesson learned - THIS is why it’s important to hire a hotel photographer who is experienced and professional.

“You can’t control what happens to you but you can control how you react to it.” We’ve learned that’s much easier to do with a great contract in place.

Game changer for photographing farm land and lots!

The most important shots we take on our is the exterior twilight images. The key to good twilights is to take a variety of shots as the light changes. We shoot from about 15 minutes before sunset to 15 minutes after.

Twilight Shots are the money shot for hotel photography. Daytime shots and nighttime shots are great but it’s twilight when hotels are most captivating.

We built an incredibly rewarding hotel photography business but after 10 years of nonstop travel, COVID allowed us to rethink our vision.

We discovered that we love staying HOME and a great way to do that more is to build onto our photography business instead of simply building our hotel photography business bigger.

We are still typically ranked #1 on Google for and but we started rethinking what we wanted and decided to get back to basics.

Greg’s first job after getting his degree in commercial photography was photographing products for catalogs. In 1999, that was a pretty cool job and it still is!

A partial hotel photo shoot is a great option between or during renovations. Updating guest room photos before the renovation is complete helps offset any negative reviews due to disruption and inconveniences to guests due to renovation.
Updating select photos can make the hotel look fresh even between renovations.

Aerial Hotel Photography made a huge difference in showing the location of this brand new Country Inn & Suites by Radisson.

The hotel is located near a very busy area in the Atlanta suburbs. The aerial photography was able to show both the peace and quiet of the hotel itself while also showing the proximity to shopping and travel.

They did a fantastic job preparing for our hotel photo shoot and we were thrilled that they fought to get an exception so that we could be approved to do their shoot.

Did you ever wonder what happens if we have bad weather during one of our Hotel Photo Shoots?

That was certainly the case at our shoot last year for the Holiday Inn Express Nashville - W I40/Whitebridge Rd. The hotel did a great job getting the front of the property cleared out for our daytime shots but Mother Nature had different ideas when it came time for the twilight shots.

This is why we stay two nights even though we only shoot two four hour segments. We watch weather and sunset timing in the days before our shoot.

We ALWAYS hope to get the "Twilight" shot on the night of our arrival. But we have four options just in case -

Arrival Day - Sunset
Shoot Day - Before Sunrise
Shoot Day - Sunset
Departure Day - Before Sunrise

We've been doing this long enough to know that weather is the one thing we can't control but with proper planning and coordination, we can get our exterior shots one way or another.

We are members of a bunch of hotel related Facebook groups where we share our work. We always add a selfie in front of the hotels we photograph and share that on the hotel Facebook groups after each shoot.

It helps us to build a relationship with our clients and prospective clients when we put a face with the name.

We get so much business from these silly selfies to include our shoot at the Holiday Inn Mobile Airport. They are in the middle of a major renovation and knew that the cost of updated room photos on their website would be well worth the cost of the photo shoot!

Sometimes we photograph a hotel that is named for a destination that is close by. In this case, we were photographing the hotel that is next door to the destination!

Great location and great people who worked so well together!
