The Pharmacy Techs Made History!
In Summer of 2021 and Summer of 2022, Kay Bee and Whitney Jo Hummel made pharmacy history as the 1st and 2nd pharmacy technicians to be featured in PharmaSis Magazine.
I have had an opportunity to spend time with these ladies and watch them chart their course in their careers. I have also seen them support each other and other techs as well.
Keyerra and Whitney, keep soaring, blazing trails and building your dreams…your dreams are urgent! 💕

Techs are the GOAT!
I mean that! I cannot think of any pharmacy practice situation that I have worked in where a tech wasn’t critical to the success of the day!
When I have worked prn and been clueless to how the pharmacy software actually worked. It was a pharmacy tech that saved the day.
When I have had operational questions because I don’t regularly work in the environment…that’s right!…a tech is who I often have to lean on.
I have had techs literally make sure I eat because they know I need energy to make it through my shift. They have ordered, picked up or even shared food with me while I focus on the task at hand of verifying prescriptions.
And for all the unspoken ways I have been supported and befriended by a pharmacy technician, I say THANK YOU!
You’ve made many of my days!

Today's the day!
I love October 12th every year because it allows me the opportunity to pause and reflect on the choices I made more than 30 years ago to enter the profession of pharmacy 💊
I remember starting off at the Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL and never had a clue where that decision would take me. I then went on to the Ohio State College of Pharmacy in Columbus, OH for graduate school and residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
I never knew what pharmacy had to offer or what I had to offer pharmacy but that has become clearer through the years. I have just continued to keep putting one foot in front of the other and taking huge leaps. I'm grateful for my journey that took me to the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and all of the years that I spent in the pharmaceutical industry.
I'm proud to be a woman pharmacist and proud to know so many women pharmacists who are blazing trails and building their dreams.
So here's to us, women pharmacists, may we continue to be beautiful, bold and brilliant as we make our mark on the profession, our patients and the world ✨

Letter From the Editor
In the pharmacy world where things are changing rapidly and many pharmacists feel the shift in what we nostalgically remember as the reasons we chose our profession to different conditions that govern the practice today, there is hope. While healthcare as we know it continues to evolve, pharmacists are finding ways to redefine themselves as well as the care models of the patients they serve and I can only imagine the continued integration of the pharmacists in the lives of patients as a respected and trusted healthcare professional. In October we celebrate American Pharmacists Month and Women Pharmacist Day and I personally want to acknowledge and thank my fellow pharmacists for the work you do to support other healthcare professionals, care for patients and may you continue to build honorable, fulfilling careers that leave a legacy for those coming afterwards.
