Today in the 8th poorest city in the United States (Enfield NC)—where I am mayor—I put together a team of outside private partners, including a banker, developer and project manager and we saw 354 people, and helped them understand the pathway to homeownership.

174 where pre-approved, and all of them were low to moderate income hourly workers!! Now all of them will be moving into brand new smart homes!!

This is the first of what will be a national push to bring hourly wage employees into the vision of the American dream that includes home ownership!!

We only asked that they make 25,000 or more and we will do the rest, as it pertains getting them their homes and mortgages!!

And the sad part about it is not one local news outlet showed up!! Not The Daily Herald (rrdailyherald.com), not Rocky Mount Telegram, WRAL TV, but let there had been something negative to report, I bet all of them would’ve showed up!!

I cried today when a man told me that he hitchhiked from more than 18 miles away and he couldn’t read and write, and he had been leaving in a motel for years. We got him with one of the representatives and he was pretty-approved!!

From motel to home ownership, and the crazy part was he knew me since I was a youngin he used to hang with my uncles!!

Yall murdered Martin Luther King, Jr. and he was committed to nonviolent protest, and set on building the beloved community, so you think I’m going to let yall trick me to believe that y’all don’t like me because my language?

No, you oppose me because I point out your racism. I live life as a racial mirror and all those who play a role in maintaining racism tend to hate me. It should be said that some of you that hate me aren’t White, and you are as Black as me.

Over the last two years I’ve been investigated twice, by the NC SBI and both times Black men working with the state were responsible. This behavior is no different than those who worked with the FBI and CoIntelPro to kill the Black Panthers. They were loud about announcing the investigation and quiet af when the investigation led to nothing!!!!

The first investigation was about me tearing down a confederate monument, that the town owned. The second investigation was me being investigated for the very threats on my OWN life and y’all would have me act as if these incidents are nothing.

Not to mention the harassment and death threats I still receive.

I know I’m not guaranteed a damn thing, and especially not time. So to expect me to hide and pretend that I’m afraid of the K*K is asking me to forget that even before I was active there were threats on my person. Markese Robinson was there when we were young and they chased us, threw bottles at our heads for no other reason than we were Black.

I want to grow old and fat, but I be damn if I do at the expense of you stealing my dignity and my desire to be first. First, not in competition, but first in love for Black people, first for justice, as I am reminded this is what Jesus demanded!!

So do me a favor stop mailing me your bulls**t and stop emailing me, I’m not going to be quiet about how and who y’all are!!

Ken Smith and WRAL TV I just heard some disturbing information. I pray that it’s not true, and I look for clarity from both the station and Mr. smith.

One of the residents in the town of Enfield—where I’m mayor—shared a screen grab of you all’s coverage of Mr. Neville’s death (which happened in Enfield). The resident purports that during that coverage Mr. Smith chuckled as he was reporting.

If this happened there needs to be a clear statement apologizing to the family and friends of Mr. Neville. There should also be an explanation of how this happened during such sensitive coverage.

The statement should also explain what steps are being taken to ensure there is more dignity applied in future instances, when covering the death of a human.

4 years ago, I launched Black Male Voter Project, the nations first and only organization that has the sole purpose of increasing the participation—of Black men—in civic life. The organization prides itself on the programs which are built on the lessons of Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, me spending 20 years working on campaigns (all over this country and internationally), and an affirmative recognition that black men have a unique claim of skepticism for America’s democracy and all aspects of it happenings.

Today, during the last day of production for the short-version of the documentary about my life and my hometown, I was forced to face a trauma that I had never thought about, or least I had not thought about what it would do to my soul see it up close and personal.

And the universe is wild, bc as I was interacting with this “thing” and on the side of the road crying, two brothers that mean so much to my entire journey appeared—at separate times and unbeknownst to each other—one who lives in Raleigh and was the reason I went to the Marine Corps and the other has been in my life for as far back as Gunter St.

The odds of running into both of them at separate times on the same day and having the opportunity to share the history with both of them was overwhelming and also it actually helped me process it all.
