I share too many portraits. Maybe it’s because the days I’m a part of are so intimate and sacred that sharing them feels like a lot. Maybe it’s because they don’t always fit in the grid. But these moments speak for themselves in a way that portraits never could. And there will definitely be more of that on my page coming soon.
Celebrating you, your marriages, your milestones, is such an honor. Thank you for letting me walk with you through these moments ❤️
I grew up in a creative community - in theaters and in creative writing spaces, and largely, my community was artists who were also trying to establish themselves. So when I established my business, I was surprised to see how many people had experiences with condescending friends and family asking about their “little business”. All my experience was the opposite.
If you are surrounded by people that aren’t familiar with creative industries, you might get questions that sound condescending. But I do genuinely believe the majority of people just don’t know the really small colloquialisms that could make well-meaning questions sound pointed and condescending. I think the reason I never received any of these questions is because the people I started out with were also creatives who understood.
My point is - all the uncle Ben’s at weddings asking about your camera, everyone who asked about your business, they are all a touchpoint of our brand. Are we extending the benefit of the doubt and a little kindness (the circumstance of true malice notwithstanding obviously)? Are we using this as opportunities to bond and share? Or have we allowed those moments to spoil business ownership and our brand reputation?
