This was excellently worded from a trusted veteran meteorologist. I saw someone post about Reed today, and it was definitely taken out of context. We will be going live tomorrow evening around 6pm, and taking questions and comments, as well as talking about next weeks weather “event” and what’s on the horizon.

🤷‍♂️WHERE DO I GO DURING A TORNADO?🌪️
I’ve noticed this question being asked a lot lately on posts and in groups so I thought I would post this here with severe weather season knocking on our doorsteps.
If a tornado WATCH is issued, it’s time to turn on some weather. Your area could be impacted by a tornado. Buy a NOAA weather radio. It’s like a smoke alarm for tornadoes! Make your plans NOW. Find a local public tornado shelter near you by calling your local emergency management agency. If not, pick your SAFE room or area and stock it with protective items like blankets and pillows.
If a tornado WARNING is issued, take shelter in the designated safe area immediately. Do not wait until you can see or hear the tornado. If you do not have access to a safe area, protect your head and neck with your arms and take shelter in a low-lying area away from windows and doors.

Avoid mobile homes - Mobile homes are not safe during a tornado and should be evacuated immediately. If you live in a mobile home, make plans to take shelter in a nearby sturdy building or storm shelter.

Wear protective gear - If you have access to a helmet or other protective gear, wear it during a tornado to protect your head from debris.

Stay away from windows - During a tornado, stay away from windows and cover yourself with a blanket or other protective covering to shield yourself from shattered glass.

After the tornado - After the tornado has passed, check for injuries and damage, and avoid downed power lines and other hazards. Don’t call 911 unless you need medical help or are trapped or in danger. They most likely already know a tornado had struck, and first responders will likely be covering very large areas.

Practice tornado drills - Practice tornado drills with your family or coworkers to ensure that everyone knows what to do in the event of a tornado. DON’T BE SCARED, BE PREPARED!

By following these tornado safety tips, you can help protect yourself and your loved ones during severe weather events in Alabama and surrounding states where tornadoes occur. It is important to always take tornado warnings seriously and to be prepared in advance for the possibility of a tornado. Tornadoes can happen spontaneously and during months you wouldn’t think they would occur here. From January-December, Dixie has had its fair share of strong, violent tornadoes. Share this post, and help others STAY PREPARED FOR TORNADOES 🌪️

From the man himself. We’re watching this event closely, and will be updating you throughout the rest of the week and weekend. Could potentially be something, but we’ll get to that closer to next Monday/tuesday. Just a heads up.

Happy Weekend!
If you like rain, this weekend (and Monday) is for YOU! 🌧⛈🌧⛈

Not much this morning, but give it time and the radar will fill in. Rain will be heavy at times, mainly this afternoon. A few strong thunderstorms with gusts to 40 MPH. Heavy rain and storms will continue overnight.

Then a break Sunday morning before another round of heavy rain and storms Sunday afternoon and night. Strong thunderstorms may increase winds to 40 MPH. Rain and storms continue Sunday evening and night.

Then a short break Monday morning, before another round showers and storms for mid-morning Monday through early afternoon. Rain tapers off Monday evening...

Key notes for the forecast: ⚠️

-Focus on the heavy rainfall. By Monday evening, a few locations could have rain totals as high as 4". 🌧🌧🌧
-Night travel. It is the weekend; many will be out at night. Ponding on the roads/flooding is harder to see when it is dark.
-River/stream flooding is likely and will continue even after the rain ends Monday. (Through mid-week)
-Cooler temps after the rain ends for next Tuesday and Wednesday. (Not frigid, cold stuff...just cooler)

Be safe! On air starting 📺👀 at 5 A.M. with the latest and starts at 8A.M. ☕👍

AURORA CHASERS! A near X-Flare (M9.0) was observed around AR 3576 at 23:07 UTC (Feb 10). Coronagraph imagery does show that the bulk of plasma is heading north of the Sun-Earth line, however a portion of the shock front could still pass Earth. A minor (G1) to moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch was added beginning late on February 12th and into the 13th.
